Master Ludwig Falkenwald

Steward to the Von Drachensterns, Master Ludwig served under the royal family for many years, ensuring the safety and security of the two brothers, and the Royal Keep, while their father was away during times of war.
Years went by, and not a word from the boys' father arrived. Ludwig began to worry, and assumed the worst had happened. 6 months went by, and finally news had arrived from the king's brother, General Ramsay Von Drachensterns. The King had fallen in battle, and there was nothing he could have done.
Master Ludwig could tell there was deceit in the air, and he knew what was to come. Siegfried was much too young to rule the throne, and he was in no position of power. So the mantle was claimed by Ramsay, and his first decision as acting king was to lock the two brothers away in the Keep's Tower indefinitely. This of course was met with much protest, but there was nothing they could have done, for the alternative was death, and Ramsay thought himself kind to offer imprisonment.
For 8 years the boys were locked in the tower, along with Master Ludwig's daughter, Helena, while a stranger played pretender on the throne. Ramsay had told the world they were dead.
Ludwig could no longer bear it, and so one night, in secret, he performed a ritual to summon a demon. For hours, Ludwig called to the demon, until finally getting an answer. He told the demon that he wished for the liberation of the princes, and no price was too much to pay. The demon demanded his daughter as payment, and so Ludwig reluctantly agreed.
The following day changed the course of history forever. The rumbling of a hundred guard's boots shook the tower, Ludwig's secret had been discovered. With haste, the old steward quickly awoke the slumbering princes, and told them to climb the tower stairs to the top.
Ulrich went first, disposing of the guards with ease, the three children quickly followed suit, the sound of boots on stone was getting louder by the second. What awaited the children at the top was a monstrously large creature, ready to fly. Ludwig and Ulrich helped the children onto the bird, and sent them away.
The last thing they ever saw was Master Ludwig's sad gaze staring at them as they flew from the tower.

The aging Steward of the Von Drachenstern family. He foolishly struck a deal with a demon, sacrificing his own daughter in hopes of liberating the kingdom of Aeirendahl from the tyrant that was Ramsay Von Drachenstern. Those who know his story either see him as a hero, or an evil coward.
