Shared customary codes and values
Tetonaq society is rigidly caste-based. Someone born into one of the 14 Kaenn can leave it in three ways. If they are discovered to be a sorcerer, they become one of the sorcerer-lords. There is a series of punishing tests in each child's teenage years meant to ignite sorcerous powers and many children do not survive. If someone offends someone of a higher Kaenn, they are in their rights to have them punished with beatings, death, or, in extreme cases, dropping them to a lower Kaenn. In this case, all their children will be born of the lower Kaenn. It can take a lifetime of gruelling servitude to someone of a higher Kaenn to be raised on their deathbed.
Art & Architecture
Many Tetonaq cities are dominated by flat-topped pyramids of greenish stone which house the sorcerer-lords and are used for their sacrifices. These pyramids are surrounded by small blocky houses of clay bricks as stone is a rarity in Tetonac but clay and sand are common.
Tetonaq art is mostly religious abstractions in praise of the sorcerer-lords, surrounded by interwoven square knots. Scenes of nature are also common.
