Demons grow from the souls of the evil that are taken to the Abyss. As they take more mortal souls, either by killing or tempting them, they grow in power

Growth Rate & Stages

It is especially difficult for lesser demons to grow in power. The weakest among them would fall easily to a mortal. When a demon is killed, it regenerates in the Abyss as a Manes. The whole process can take hundreds to thousands of years.
