Verti

Patron of Vengeance

Verti Tamaris was the third born child of the Goddess Emiva and her wife, Aniva . He was born with fire red hair like Aniva and shared his mothers' yellow eyes. He was described as a sweet boy who stayed with his parents, unlike his brothers, when his younger siblings were born. Verti was incredibly close to both of his mothers, as well as his younger siblings.

The birth of Vengeance
The loss of both his mothers created the coldest type of anger in Verti, while his siblings mourned he was furious. Unlike them he knew who the demi-god who had murdered Aniva was. A someone who he had once considered a friend. Their betrayal made his fury colder than ice.

He left his family the night after the funeral pyre, and the only thing he took with him was his trusty sword and the clothing he wore. He moved like the predator that his mothers had taught him to be.

The sun had started to rise on the horizon when he finally reached them, his mother's murderer; his former friend. Hirah had come as an outsider to Nasera when Verti had been just a boy and he had been the one to argue for her allowance to stay, they had fast become friends and sworn to protect their home together.

When Verti confronted Hirah about the murder of his mother, his old friend just laughed. She moved towards him with a mocking smile on her lips and told him that she had slit his mother's throat smiling. Verti's grip on his sword tightened and his face became colder and colder for every word leaving her lips. She stopped moving barley a meter from him, still with that mocking smile on her lips, and told him that now that he had killed his mother they could finally be together.

He then straightened up and stared at her and asked why she would think that, why she even thought he would consider something like that. At that point she lost her smile and seemed to grow confused, because according to her that was how you courted someone.

Verti gripped his sword even tighter, and felt the cold fury rise higher. With a slight mad look in his eye he attacked, it happened so fast that Hirah barely had time to react to the pain before the snow around them became ice, piercing through them both and creating a storm of snow and ice around them. The ice encased them and formed into a tree of ice, it would later be shown that the ice couldn't be melted or destroyed any other way. Since there was no possibility to destroy the tree Verti's siblings couldn't retrieve their brother's body for his funeral pyre, making it impossible for his soul to be reincarnated.

I like this take on the concepts of betrayal, vengeance and twisted affection very much. The basic idea is really well presented, however some elements feel a bit abrupt to me. This could be because I lack the background, but the conclusions made by Verti (who was the murderer) and Hirah (this is how I show affection) came out of the blue for me, as well as the two defining events: The murder and the death of Verti and Hinah. Still, I like the conflict and its resolution very much.

Thank you so much for the feedback! Given that parts of the background isn't public yet made it kind of hard to write, but I get what you mean! I will probably come back around when I've done Hirah (as well as her uh, religion).
