Justicar

The kingdom of Risenia is the center of the world. Decades into the greatest economic and technological renaissance the world has ever seen, the proud and ancient warrior civilization stretches the limits of it's social and political fabric.   Merchants become nobility and blue blood lords become paupers as trade flourishes in every corner of the kingdom. Knights and soldiers alike, drunk on an era of peace and learning, resort to odd jobs and lowly caravan guarding, if not outright brigandry. In the oldest parts of Ruritania, a religious revival swells into hysterical fanaticism, spurred on by a philistine Church desperate to remain relevant in a changing world.   And all the while, a meek and slovenly King, daunted by a kingdom tearing apart before his eyes, relies on his traveling Justicars to enforce law and order.   Two decades ago, the soon to be newest and shrewdest of these roaming law givers was born, made a witch by a sabotaged and botched church ritual meant to prevent such births from occuring throughout the land. Now the church regularly organizes witch hunts to capture and kill these elusive heretical abominations. Witch hunts a Justicar is obligated to aid.   Two decades ago, 6 colony ships vanished west enroute to a newly discovered continent of untold riches and primordial beasts, ripe for exploitation.   Two decades ago, a demon offered life to a new born princess dying of a terminal disease, on the promise it would take payment on her ascension to the throne.   Two decades ago, rumors spread of a force unlike any seen before ravaging the far east. To some, rumors speak of a great Savior called Uman, dealing holy retribution to heathens in foreign lands. To others, the rumors warn of the Umanmanda, or the tribe from nowhere, the men of no home, spelling great peril to Rasenia should ever deign to approach.   20 years ago, our story begins.
