Jovia began as a casual evolution game (a.k.a. evogame) on the Speculative Evolution forums. It then moved to Discord, where it has continued to grow since beyond an evogame and more into a world project.
Evogames or evolution forum games are a type of forum game with no win or lose, only an objective to progress the evolution of life on a fictional world. To participate, make slight alterations to an existing species and post it as a new species. All details required to participate in the project are available on the Discord. The World Anvil component is a work-in-progress intended to be a more reader friendly introduction into the world and it's history, but is currently incomplete.
If you would like to add your own species to the project first join the Discord. At the top of the channel category list there is an about, instructions and planet information channel for the complex life-hosting moon, Iris. These will guide you through the rest of the steps.
First, read the instructions which will provide the format and rules for posting a species.
Second, choose an extant species from which to evolve a new species (or you can describe a new genus). There is a category for extant species, channels labelled as current hold the species you can evolve. Or you can look under the current age ecosystems category to see what lives in each region and what their ecological relationships are.
Once you have chosen a species and decided how you would like to evolve it, design it in accordance with the instructions, and post your new species in the add-new-species channel.
