4 Sponcomb

Name: Sponcomb   Descendant of: Spongill   Description: A simple animal that filter feeds by cilliating water through it's body. It's ancestors used to have a densely packed body where the living structure tangled to form thousands of tiny channels with walls, but in this species the branching structure is visible as the structure is thin and less connected - you could run your fingers through it without breaking too many connections. Cillia are also longer to increase chances of catching food. They cover every part of the living structure. The organism still passes water through one side of it's body and out the other to feed, but during periods of low food or low oxygen they conserve their energy.   They live in the deepest benthic habitats where it is too cold and the pressure too high for fungal parasites to affect them (yet).   Reproduction: It reproduces sometimes sexually, sometimes asexually by spawning. It casts off eggs that become sticky embryos and latch on to rock and some stromatolites.   Food: Suspended organic detritus   Ocean Locations: 1, 2 Land Locations: None
