30 Cyafelt
Name: Cyafelt
Descendant of: Greefelt
Description: Cyafelt tend to be pioneer plants of sloping and mountainous habitats in warm wet tropical regions, stabilizing the soil, providing nitrogen with their bacterial symbiote and beginning the formation of organic soil with their dead matter. They are also found around the edges of mountain lakes. Their hair-like matted vegetation have a coating that limit the intensity of sunlight beneath the skin of each "hair" while still allowing enough for photosynthesis to occur, as at high elevations there is less protection from the atmosphere against sun damage. This coating makes the plant appear more blue.
Although they digest rock with their roots and cause it to crumble, hastening soil formation, their stabilizing effect on slopes by anchoring into rock and acting as a retentive netting outweighs the superficial destabilization of surface rock layers.
They produce taller spore-laden strands to increase chances of them catching the wind, allowing them to reach slopes all around and not just below, and reach more distant mountain habitats.
Reproduction: It reproduces by growth and fragmentation (clones) but will ocasionally produce asexual spores from spore-bearing stems in dry weather.
