Moonbeast

Resembling grey frogs with a blunt, vague snout and a bunch of tentacles for a head, and with no skeletons they are very flexible. This also makes their movements highly unpredictable.

The moonbeast is a fearsome class of creature, made of a weird flesh/sponge like material, its able to compress its body greatly, allowing it to hide its simply gargantuan form, it uses its tentacles to navigate the world, current theory suggests that it views the world much like how someone in the ethereal plane views it. Its color is usually darker blacks and blues, with red tentacles, toes, and stomach, however it has shown that its color can be any range of dark colors that blend in with its surroundings.

With an intelligence equal or greater than that of humanoids, and a propensity to create myth and legend about itself, it has grown to a status of neo elemental or powerful Abberation, storys have been passed about it in Jotunheim for aslong as anyone can remember, or record…

Origin

This species has a confusing origin, so far records suggest its been around aslong as Jotunheim has, but life hasnt been found on the island since 1295 AD (It is unkown why this date is in this text, Researcher Ame Boston has undertaken the task to find out why).

3 things are known about the origin.

1. This creature is unkowably old, oldest accurate recordings date back to 1291 DR, inaccurate recordings date back to 1384 DR.
2. This creature(s?) does not mate, or give birth, or multiply/duplicate in any known way, there are no eggs, it is so far eluded Amo Bosten to try and find two moonbeasts interactin.
3. There is not a location in Jotunheim that the moonbeast can be found.

Behavior/tactics

The moonbeast is known to choose a target, once that target has been chosen it feels intense anxiety and a feeling of being watched. It stalks its prey for 9 days, and on the 9 night it strikes. Over the course of the 9 days, it will reveal itself (it lowers the psychic block that prevents the victim from viewing the Moonbeast) or create illusions to frighten and slowly rot away the victims sanity, leaving them exhausted and feeble on the 9 day. It uses its telepathic abilities to transmit thoughts of violence into those around the victim. However the Moonbeast does have a malicious mind, it prefers for family or friends to betray and attack the victim, the feeling of betrayal that the victim feels causes a delightful taste to Metastasize in the meat. While this style of hunting may seem like the Moonbeast cannot kill its prey at full strength, it seems to be to the contrary, the moonbeast likes to play with its food.

Dream stepping

Moonbeasts possess an almost unique ability to enter a creatures dreams, however they are seemingly unable to, or choose not to, do anything to the prey/target while they dream. While in a dream however, the user instantly gains a lucid dreaming like state, if the prey chooses to fight the moonbeast, unless greatly powerful they tear the mind of their prey apart. If unbothered however, the dreams they receive are violent, restless, and hostile.

Interactions with Other Dream Walkers

Moonbeasts are territorial, any dream walker they encounter are quickly caught in blows. Theyre powerful haunting abilities still allows it to target Oni, Night hags, or even Beholders. These creatures find themselves easily beaten by the Moonbeast

Moonbeasts are extremely aggressive and adept at fighting Quori, while normally powerful foes, a Quori is no match for a moonbeast of any kind.
