Excemus (Exsemuss)

The Excesmus parasite is a nasty thing carried by wolfs of the Mourning woods, when it latches onto a wolf it digs works its way into the wolf's brain and massivly augments the agressivity of it, when the wolf bits anything else than an other wolf the parasite will try to eat the infected individual's brain, when the parasite reaches the individual's brain it will start to eat it, causing extreme pain, this parasite is know for being a problem to the people of Acemus as they usually have pet wolves and live in the Mourning woods.

Transmission & Vectors

The parasite transmit through saliva (usually wolf one), as for how it came to be in the first place that is the question of the egg or the chicken.

Symptoms

The only symptom is extreme head pain followed by sweating, convulsing, vomiting organs and finally death.

Treatment

The only known treatments are, or a opening the head and trying to extract the parasite, this is very difficult due to the fact that the parasite is extremly small, this treatment more often than not results in death due to brain damage, the other treatment is the wish spell.

Prognosis

The most likely outcome of this infection is death.

Sequela

If somebody survives the operation to extract the parasite from there brain, they will suffer from permanent brain damage, uncontrolled movement and vomiting blood.

Hosts & Carriers

The Mourning woods wolf is the only know specie to be a carrier without its brain being eaten, the wolf will permenantly become extremly agressive attacking everything it can see (even plants), then the wolf will probably die due to lack of self preservation.

Prevention

The only know prevention is to apply a very potent poison onto the skin so the parasite dies when it enters the body if the bit was on the skin part with poison on it.

History

The first recorded case of Excemus was in 789 even tho some people belive that Rasmus robert the first king of Acemus died of this parasite.

Cultural Reception

When the Acemans heard about this parasite it provoked a civil war that lasted from 790 to 794, after that some lunatics started seing this parasite as a test from a god to see if they where worthy enough to rule this world, creating the Sect of the Excemus's chosen.
