this is a world in which magic and humanity collided around the mid 17th century, with the meeting of humans and mermaids. around 1670 a ship made contact with merpeople and began trade, however slavers coaught a few mermaids to sell, creating a hostile environment aided by humanities genral dismissive attitudes. a war began that changed the face of the earth, cinking continents and slughtering populations. Although the mermaids won the war, nukes were blasted that turned some countries to inhospitable wastelands. In this new world sea travel is the number one way of moving between lands, from small fishing islands to megacities amok with trains, they are connected by the sea. This brings in the raised importance of the navy and sailors, with the rise of pirates to terrorize those they come accross. However, the change to the landscape isnt the biggest outcome of the old war, the rise of magic in the world, as people began to learn more from old texts to gain power and those with magic in their blood began to rise in numbers; creating living weapons and gods. those with powers intircate to their lives are thought to be the followers of gods in this new world, and reveread as well as hunted. Soldiers of infinate powers, most born with powers were taken away and killed when their powers started to beccome to strong to be controlled, these Beings, with unlimited magical powers were thought to be extinct, although a few of weak power remain, often on seeing paerts of the ffuture or converising with the dead and are believed to be the priests/priestesses/prophets of the gods that control these lands. Pirates and criminals are now controllign most of the water and the people fear their control and the possibility of another war, especuaially scine people are being unwillingly recruited. eith the war over a sense of peace hangs over the world although there are slavers and siren swarms, this would has figured out a way to survive their aquatic existance int he most punk way possible.
