Introduction to Itineris

Itineris is a dynamic world of colourful and varied culture, of sprawling forests and dense urban centres where magic and technology are woven together. Though coexistence and international cooperation are well regarded ideologies in this world, that doesn't mean it is without the conflicts of opposing forces or the dangers of long-lost entities from a bygone era.   The continent is littered with the ruined cities and constructs of the Architects, an ancient people who perished over a millennia ago. Some are maintained still by dutiful caretakers, or are the subject of research by academics of the current nations, while others are stalked by deadly sentinels who protect whatever secrets remain within their walls. Despite the danger, many attempt to plunder these ruins, an excellent source of coin for the weary adventurer with the right contacts.   Outside the ruins of old, the lands between cities are not completely barren of danger. Wild beasts prowl the plains and hills, whilst the Great Forest, though beautiful, is difficult to traverse because of the vicious and carnivorous plants that could easily snatch up the unaware traveller.   The dangers do not end there. Barbaric raiders trouble settlements from the north, whilst bandits slip past patrols to hassle merchants for their wares – a fate not even avoided on the water as bands of pirates sack ships both on the east and south seas, as well as along the great Danza river which connects the ever-competing cities of the League of Camlas.   Not every nations' soldiers are accepting of wandering adventurers. The adversarial nation of Kalihym, seeking expansion and new resources for its aggressive industrialisation, is often secretive of what happens within their borders and does not take kindly to curious travellers. As the nation is in open war with the Enclave – the Druidic people of the Great Forest who oppose their wasteful use of minerals - Kalihym consider most adventurers with suspicion at best, and at worst are held as spies.   Beyond mundane beasts and bandits there are more esoteric challenges awaiting the adventurous. Magic is the life-blood of much of the world's technology, and new innovation is not always without risk. As well as that which is sanctioned, there is that which is not, and nothing is more risky than the use of Entropy magic. Practitioners are often those willing to pay any price for advancement or power, and they are dangerous foes to face, for the use of this dark magic is known to spill out and create Tainted Spirits; echoes of the magic that lash out at anyone in the vicinity, and can leave areas of land abandoned for years until someone clears out the danger.
