Magical Resistance

Before Mori, there was the Resistance, the first and only collective action taken against Noxheim.

Unlike the other three powers discussed here, this rebellious group were not owners or controllers of significant portions of land, they didn’t have infrastructure, high population numbers, or easy access to desperately needed resources. The Resistance grew out of the Century of Death, the massive genocide inflicting upon mages and magically inclined folk by Noxheim. After about a decade of Alos believing that every mage west of the Untouchable Lands had been killed or sold into slavery, a group of mages resurfaced and destroy a massive battalion of Noxheim soldiers, costing the empire thousands of pieces of gold, a few hundred men, and damaging the pride of the empire. The next years would be a race between Noxheim and the resistance, each racing to beat the other to finding the solution to ending the war. Noxheim was bent on flushing the mages out and finally killing them, the resistance looked to fight off Noxheim and establish their own country or city state. The mages that consisted of the resistance ranged from children just learning the basics to mages who experienced the beginning of the century. Their numbers were low, but the further word of a resistance spread, the more volunteers showed up to help. When Noxheim fell it was a shock to the resistance. The enemy that had hunted them for decades, the Monster of Alos, the consumer of magic, had simply ended. Just collapsed from within, and before they knew it they were running into survivors and refugees, both magical and non-magical. Aiding non-magic humans was something only a few mages chose to do, but every mage was immediately taken into the group. It would be a couple more years until they find a magically heavy area in the northwest of Alos, and it would be in the shadow of Mt. Valstaire that Mori, City of Mages would be erected and protected by the leftover resistance fighters. To this day, the mages claim they do not know what happened to Noxheim, and it’s very likely that they are telling the truth.
The Magical Resistance was based northeast of Noxheim, close to the Untouchable Lands and located deep, deep underground. The exact location has not been released to the general public, and many believe it is because the Mystics keep something of importance there. Others think it no longer exists. Whatever the case, the general area where the headquarters were based at holds dozens of treasure hunters, adventurers, and even lone mages seeking out the potential power that lay beneath the surface of Alos.
