12/26/20 — Boxing Day Town Meeting

General Summary

The evening of Boxing Day was the first time in many weeks that the majority of the town had come together, breaking bread and drinking to our recent successes. For those of us who spend our days foraying into the wilds beyond Haven, much of the evening was spent sharing and comparing notes with one another.   Bonn Ridat also had news for us, information he preferred to share in person rather than on a job board. First, he commended our efforts in establishing a foothold here, leading the way into this brave new world. This leadership prompted him to share exactly how this expedition made it to the lost continent: a bronze compass, unlike any we've seen before.
Two hundred or so years ago, the was a city called Naerie. While traveling a passage between light and shadows deep under this city, a group of heroes discovered a strange chamber made entirely a jet black stone. Inside that chamber they found many wondrous objects, one of which was this particular compass. They sold it to a local merchant and it sat, unnoticed, until a day five years ago when it sprang to life, pointing the way west. Eventually, it found its way to the trading company, where they discovered it was pointing towards the mists. The captain of the first expedition found that once a ship, outfitted with the compass, made it to this continent, they could travel safely back. But still, the compass points to somewhere further inland, ever west.
Bonn Ridat shut the chest containing the compass, his story concluded. When this business with the nearby goblins is handled, this would be our mission: to journey west and discover what the compass is pointing us towards.
With adventuring business thus concluded, the evening turned towards gift-giving, story-telling, and song...
