Seb (Sɛbaɟeːnˠ)

Sebaigéan , Of The Daoiharne (a.k.a. Seb)

Introduction

Seb - Status : A Main Character   Sebaigéan is the only Soldier that can't generate any power at all by himself. To combat this, he uses a claidheamh sword that, while it's initial purpose is to act as a conduit between Seb and his abilities, can also be a very effective weapon on its own. On the account of, you know, being a literal sword. He is also one of the more athletically gifted members of the Soldiers, specifically, in climbing. As a result of the mountainous terrain he was raised in, it was incredibly common for one to have to climb almost sheer rock faces and walls to collect food or water in the morning. And so, he became incredibly talented in the art of rock-climbing, able to find holds and perches in areas where no one would have thought possible. Though he is incredibly susceptible to getting sick or even contracting diseases, he often enjoys to spend time outside, climbing, fighting, or just running around in general.

Personality -

Sebaigéan is by far the most timid and apprehensive Soldier, often being terrified that he would say something that would offend another or make them mad at him. And, while he's not necessarily quiet or shy, he does walk on eggshells around almost everyone, not wanting any conflict to arise. If such an event did happen, that two people were to be upset with one another, he would do his best to settle it, attempting to act as a mitigator between the two. If the conflict fell between him and another however, it wouldn't be long before he would start trying to give them anything he ever owned as an apology.   However, he is very much capable of standing up for himself or others if he sense injustice of any kind. His nature usually makes him adverse to fighting in any form, unless of course as practice, but in the presence of an authoritarian figure that Seb senses is harming those around or below them, he will not hesitate to either severely maim or even kill them. Sebaigéan has no pity or mercy to those who abuse their power, perfectly willing to lay his life on the line to protect others from them. He is not a coward in any sense of the word, and while anxiety can -and often does- get the better of him, he will draw a line and make anyone who ever crosses it regret it for the rest of their short life.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Sebaigéan is relatively athletic, tall and on the skinnier side, and though he can stretch out his arms and legs to contort himself into odd and uncomfortable positions easily, he's not incredibly fast or agile. He's mostly pretty healthy, with the side effect of being malnourished in his younger years giving him a weak immune system, making him susceptible to many illnesses.

Facial Features

Sebaigéan has a longer, angular face with high cheekbones and rather soft v-shaped jawline. He also has a small, upturned nose and upturned, bright green eyes as well. And a helluva lot of freckles.

Identifying Characteristics

Though he could certainly be indemnified by the amount of freckles he has, Sebaigéan's horns would be the easiest to recognise. Given to him at his coming-of-age ceremony at the age of fifteen, they are slightly curved, mountain goat horns that are affixed to his head through a combination of scarring practices and a headpiece.

Special abilities

Sebaigéan's abilities allow him control of water and other liquids in all forms. He can manipulate liquids -even the blood or water inside another person - to his will, including being able to extract them out of the sky if there is heavy fog nearby. However, he cannot freeze water or adjust its temperature, though he still can manipulate it as ice. The largest limitation to his abilities though, is he cannot control them by himself. Instead, he requires a vessel, usually a weapon -and in this case, specifically a claideamh-, to act as a conduit between him and the water. This does not limit his performance, in fact, in some cases it can amplify it, as his body becomes exhausted from the use of magic much slower than the rest of the Soldiers.

Specialized Equipment

As a result of Sebaigéan not being able to conjure magic himself, he needed to use a conduit, a weapon preferably, instead. This weapon is a claideamh, also known as a claymore, a weapon he was taught from birth to handle. As it is a blade for the specific use of acting as a conduit between Seb and the magic, it also has proficiency against other types of magic. Though it would start to melt in actual fire, it has a much higher resistance in fire from a magical source for example, though it is not immune. Finally, the claideamh Sebaigéan uses is resistant to all forms of water damage, as it specifically since it was created to be specifically used with water.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Sebaigéan was born to a Daoibhar tribe as the youngest of three, with an older brother and sister. He wasn't the youngest for long, however. At the age of seven his family welcomed another son, a little brother. Though Sebaigéan was often scorned by other tribe members, especially the children, for not wanting to fill the traditional roles a man must, his family never forced him to do any such thing. This quickly created a close bond between him and his family, often seeing his siblings as his best friends, as pathetic as that might sound.   His parents' love for him and his siblings was strong, and they did their best to shield their children from the horrors of captivity and war. Though the older children, Seb's older brother and sister, quickly found out, they made an effort to help keep their younger brothers out of harms way. When food became scarce, his parents would surrender their food to their children, under the excuse that they 'weren't hungry', and that they 'had eaten earlier'. As times became worser still, Seb's older brother and sister would start to do the same, to the despair of their parents. All of this sheltering led Sebaigéan and his younger brother to be very much oblivious of the true horrors going on right outside their walls, instead they were each overjoyed when they learnt that their training for the day had been cancelled. Unaware that these lessons would, in fact, never return. The man who led them, after all, had been killed.    Though his parents efforts were valiant, it wasn't long until See realised what had been happening all these years. He was only twelve when he learned about it, when his confusion and pointed questions led his parents to cave and break the truth to him. That would not be the worse thing that would happen for the rest of his relatively short life. As a significant number and children and adults had been murdered in rampages, Sebaigéan became the subject of scrutiny and hatred by his fellow peers, after all, how come Seb had all of his family, and some of them had none? How could he have possibly gone so long, completely ignorant? He was an outcast, more than he ever was before, though the children couldn't exactly be blamed for what they said. They had lost family, and Seb had lost none, it made sense that resentment may boil over.    Since he was shunned from the rest of his old playmates and friends, Seb often found solace being alone by the river. It was where he spent most of his days, either fishing, perched on the rocks that lined the riverbed, or climbing through the trees that lined the bank. And, while, on most occasions this would be perfectly safe, there was a reason few would join him by the river, especially during the early spring-to-summer months. As the air began to warm, ice from higher up the mountains would melt, and it could pour down the rivers at alarming paces, sometimes even flooding flat areas. Though this wasn't often an issue for Seb, he would just retreat to higher ground, it would become one very soon. The trees that lined the river bed were old, some were even dying. However, none of the branches had broken in the past, and so as the water line started to rise over the next few days, he merely spent his time in the trees instead. This would become as mistake.    As he attempted to climb down one day, from a branch over looking the water, he missed his footing, and started to fall. Seb would reach for one of the branches above him, only to discover that the branches highest up a tree are the most fragile. It snapped in his hands, and he fell into the river below. Though he could swim, the shock of the cold water kept him frozen for a few seconds, and he lost the valuable time to swim up for help. He had gotten pinned between rocks, pieces of wood knocking his further down whenever he attempted to swim up. In the end, he would die here, and his body would be swept away.

Gender Identity

Sebaigéan identifies as male, the same gender he was assigned at birth. However, during his time with his tribe, he occasionally felt different. As he was assigned male at birth, it was then his duty to learn how to hunt, how to fish, and how to fight to protect his family. Uncomfortable with all this, he vastly preferred the duties that were often assigned to women, cleaning, cooking, occasionally fighting, sure, but much less of it. As a result, he was unsure of how he felt. He didn't want to be viewed as a woman, but he didn't want to partake in the activities and rites of passage that supposably made him a man.    After time spent in the Second Sphere, he became more comfortable in what he wanted to do and how he wanted to present himself. He did feel like a man, just that he wanted to wear dresses and skirts, and present more feminine. While the combination of his long hair and generally feminine or androgynous appearance often led others to incorrectly assume his gender, he minded very little, as it was a small price to pay to feel like himself.

Sexuality

Sebaigéan is bisexual. He likes men, women, and non-binary people. His preferences can fluctuate from time to time, but irregardless, it doesn't alter the fact that he still is attracted to all genders. While it was encouraged in the past that he date women, he was never necessarily discouraged from dating anyone else. His sexuality was never much of an issue for him, he just acknowledges that he likes people -men, women, and others-, and doesn't care much to explore it any further.

Education

Sebaigéan's childhood was often very busy when it came to education. As it was expected that one day he would be the provider of his family, he was taught from a young age to hunt and fight along with all the other children. He was taught reading and writing as well, and, most importantly, animal handling. Due to this, he was one of the few that didn't need to be taught by Aki how to read and write, instead he lent his assistance to them, specifically helping Nyupe and Maytee.   However, this wasn't where is education would end. In the Second Sphere, it became clear that Sebaigéan would need a weapon to control his abilities, and thus had to learn and master both his abilities and the art of the sword.

Mental Trauma

Sebaigéan remembers little from his childhood, though this was on purpose. While Sebaigéan belonged to a specific tribe, his tribe and many others in the area were a group known as the Daoibhar. Despite the fact that the Daoibhar were mostly peaceful, they attracted the attention of Outsiders -or so they were called-. Many of these tribes were captured by certain Outsiders for free labor, having to work unwillingly for these people. Many tribes possessed traditions or qualities -specifically the practice of wearing dead antlers atop their head as a mark of their tribe- that these Outsiders considered barbaric and uncivilised, thus apparently justifying their capture.    Through a series of wars and fights that lasted for decades, certain tribes were granted freedom, as long as they paid an annual toll. Sebaigéan, luckily, was born into one of these. However, it was often that one person or another could not be able to contribute their part of the payment, and would be taken or murdered by Outsider men. As the price for their freedom exponentially rose, and famine started to rear to its ugly head, an escape was planned. Unfortunately, one tribe member, desperate for food for his family, alerted Outsiders to the scheme, hoping he might get food and mercy in return. He got slaughtered instead. At barely ten years old, Sebaigéan had to witness members of his own tribe, people he considered family, murdered as everyone tried to escape. However, Daoibhar, accustomed to being raised in mountainous areas, are expert climbers. They were able to finally free themselves, using the sheer rock cliffs to their advantage. Despite this, almost half of the tribe members were murdered, greatly reducing their numbers.   What this could do to a child, what running for their life and seeing those they love slaughtered, is unimaginable. Though, at the time, Sebaigéan's mother tried to shield him from the tragedies, carrying the weight of all she had seen on her shoulders alone, she could not protect her child forever. While she did her best, acting as if the hiding and running was all a game, what kind of game could she possibly make up to explain why his best friend was gone? Why the woman who taught him how to swim was no longer here, why the fisherman no longer dropped by to shower Sebaigéan and his siblings with little wooden toys. He would find out eventually, and he did.

Social

Speech

Sebaigéan is often self conscious of how others see him, and this reflects in his speech. He is prone to occasionally stuttering when he gets nervous, and will either just stop talking all together, or start rambling in about nothing in particular. He rarely swears or insults those around him, usually endlessly complimenting others instead, though, again, due to his nervousness, he will often cut himself off, or speak much to quickly for anyone to understand him.
