Dragons
Dragons, or Wyrm, are great, flying beasts with scaled skin much like that of a lizard. Dragons have been a part of the world since their creation in the Old World, living both in their own communities, dominating lesser creatures or on their own in lonely mountains. Dragons do not age like other creatures; the souls of dragons are immortal, and remerge in a physical form whenever the opportunity strikes. They grow in size continuously for upwards of millenia, until the power of their spirit reaches its limit and they begin to wither away, wrinkling and shrinking as they reach death's knell. Dragons come in many different subspecies and forms, from the famous metalic and infamous chromatic dragons, all the way to lowly wyverns and small drakes.
Draconic Lore
Origins
Dragons were created in the Old World when Odon fell to the material plane. His decent created the first dragon, father of all dragons, and the prime deity of metalic dragons, Melmok. Melmok was not created in isolation. When Odon fell to the old world, his spirit shattered into every draconic spirit there is, creating thousands of fragments of his knowledge and person. These spirits are born into dragons whenever they hatch, retaining all knowledge of past lives granting them great levels of knowledge. This also created the diverse array of dragons, from fey drakes to primsatic dragons, each physically tailored to the fragment of Odon's knowledge that created them. In the sense that all draconic spirits were born from a God (an Archia mind you), and their spirits are immortal, many consider dragons as lesser deities / celestials, and in a technical sense, that is accurate.Draconic Spirits
Despite having a mortal body, draconic spirits are entirely immortal; whenever a dragon dies, their spirit joins their fellow draconic spirits in a subplane of the Ethereals called Asgorak. In Asgorak, draconic spirits battle for a place back in the material plane, fighting to assume the physical body of a draconic hatchling. Dragon spirits are eternal, and for the most part retain all information of their previous lives (with exceptions, typically depending on how the Dragon died, or the power of the spirit). Naturally speaking, all dragon spirits are immortal, and as long as an egg becomes avaliable, has the ability to return at some point, however magical means of true draconic death have been uncovered by the folk of Isus. Draconic spirits are ordered in terms of power, the more powerful the spirit, the longer and more powerful the dragon shall be in the material plane. More impressive, true dragons have great spirits that can withstand a dragon's lifespan of thousands of years, allowing their physical form to grow to immense sizes and powers. Lesser spirits, typically forming into drakes or wyverns, are lesser lived, and often struggle to retain knowledge of past lives for too long. Draconic spirits can empower themselves through magical means, but usually only while in their physical forms. Some dragons dedicate an entire life on Aleron trying to empower their spirit.True Dragons
