Personal history
Bartholomew was born a younger son with yet another younger brother and sister in Warick, before it was under Lord Calary's rule and still belonged to Lord Edmund Butler. Bartholomew's father was a knight to Calary, and it was expected that Bartholomew would either join the army or become a knight as a younger son.
As a child, Bartholomew was sent away from his family to squire for a relative of Lord Butler's as part of the Count's household. He found the experience thankless, but was determined to learn from it nonetheless. He was quick to pick up both combat and sword-fighting, which caught the attention of one particular instructor in Calary's household guard while they were visiting. The instructor took an interest in Bartholomew, offering to teach him something called "Scripturism."
Scripturism, as the antithesis of magic, was reliant on extreme precision and attention to detail instead of channeling ambient energy. Training in Scripturism was exhausting and draining, taking years to hone and master the different Psalms, Verses, Benedictions, and Chants. Memorizing these different pieces of "Scripture" was slow and monotonous, but mispronouncing a single word could have disastrous results.
While training in Scripturism, the Brothers' War intensified. Bartholomew, in his late teens, was taken to the battlefront with the new Count of Warick's host. His skill in Scripturism, along with his skills on the field, earned him a knighthood. He proved himself an asset in disabling and eliminating mages on the battlefield, and after the war ended, he was rewarded with a commendation and promotion to the captain of Lord Calary's personal honor guard.
After the Raid of Tregaron, Bartholomew briefly accompanied the Champions to Arvid after the diplomat assigned to them (Sir Arthur Walthram) was killed under strange circumstances. Upon their return to the capital, he returned to Calary's service as the captain of his guard.
Education
A trained military man, Captain Bartholomew Ingram was schooled in anti-magical warfare. He keeps his skills secret, but his training made him a great ally to King Semia in the civil war.
Along with his training in warfare and combat, his skills in Scripturism make him an asset on the battlefield. These skills took years to hone.

As a Scripturist, he was considered a valuable asset to Semia’s cause during the Brothers' War. He was later and made the captain of Lord Calary’s honor guard, a position he still retains.
