Barnet the Bastard
the Earl of Ravensrodd Barnet (a.k.a. the Bastard)
"Calary and Rutledge are impossibly boring. They agree with each other on everything." — Barnet, on the Royal Council.
Personality Characteristics
Motivation
Barnet was never quite happy with being left the title of Earl, mostly due to the enormous pressures it left on him. After being saddled with responsibility in the wake of so much death, Barnet took on a lackadaisical attitude towards both the machinations of his colleagues and the Champions themselves. His motivations were shockingly simple: be happy.
Social
Contacts & Relations
As a member of the Royal Council, Barnet often spent time with his fellow noblemen and the ruling sovereign. Though he wielded influence, his role primarily was to act as a hard check on both Calary and Rutledge's more overt scheming. When Semia's Champion was activated and reborn into Dianera, he befriended her and acted as an ally in some instances.
Family Ties
The Barnet family uses “Unconquered” as its motto as the family prides itself on its strict adherence to honor. Half of the Barnet family sided with Semia during Aesaria’s first rebellion, and the other half joined the House of Night. The oldest son of the Barnet family vowed to kill his cousins and brothers who sided with Aesaria, and slew them on the battlefield.
The last Earl was called “the Bastard” as the title fell to him after the civil war. The first, second, and third sons of the Earl were killed in battle, leaving the title to the first son of a minor branch of the family that had remained loyal to Semia. As a result, the heraldry changed.
Social Aptitude
Barnet was a social butterfly, often surrounded by other courtiers when he wasn't in a council meeting. He was popular with court women and had the reputation of a rake.
Mannerisms
Barnet had the reputation of never taking anything seriously. He was outgoing and gregarious, often laughing at the expense of others over a joke. He often mocked Calary and Rutledge's tendencies to take things "too seriously."
