The Ellavarian Elder

The lifespan of the Ellavara is long indeed. Their childhood is from birth to 25 years, their adolescence is 26 to 45, young adulthood is 46 to 60, and then is middle age to the elder years. Typically, an Ellavara can live to be at least 200, but there are some causes for an Ellavara to live longer, depending on a variety of factors. The oldest Ellavara to date is around 500 years and he still serves his position as a great teacher of magic, a position that he obtained when he was just barely 40 years old.
But how does one tell that an Ellavara is getting older? Well, if someone is expecting wrinkles they will be waiting a long, long time. Before you think so, no, the Ellavara do not appear younger with age. Their aging is far different from what some may expect from the Telkathir or even the Urskur. When an Ellavarian ages their once snowy white skin becomes more gray and has a certain faint sheen to it. Their chestnut or auburn hair becomes darker as well, edging on the color of pure black. Their eyes become brighter and they seem to glow with a light that is much the opposite to the stereotype of one getting on in years. Also, the use of magic seems to be less of a tiresome affair, but elder Ellavara can be more prone to Mage Strain if not kept in check. The elders also become shorter and usually are more laid back and retire from their jobs if they wish. A large majority do in fact, for as each year goes by the elders, get this strange urge to explore the wilds of Islemaria. To help make sure none of the Ellavarian elders go into the wilds of Islemaria unsupervised there are regular tours and such that take the elders to see the natural wonders that Islemaria has to offer, in the safest possible way.
