Cantrips

This is a popular card game played both in taverns and with the nobility/rich for money. And where there are no stakes at all and children usually play this version. The card game started in Islemaria but it has gained some popularity with their brethren in Telka thought with the Telkathir the stakes are a more deadly affair, as is expected. The game is fairly easy to set up and can, by its nature, be played by the sober and by anyone deep in their cups. It is unclear when this game started, but it is a common occurrence in most taverns, bars, and anywhere when a card game can be played.

Execution

The object of the game is beat the other player by slapping down the highest card. The winner of each round takes the losers cards and if they make a bet, then the loser of the round must add a predetermined amount of currency to the pool. It is also possible for the player to make a bet that he or she will when the round by placing an amount of their choosing before drawing. In result of a tie, the two players try to guess if the card is enchanted. For this is a thing that the dealing player can try to do their card in order to sway the odds in their favor. The way this card game prevents the cheating of being ensorcelled is when their there is indeed a higher or lower card against the one that is enchanted, the conflicting card negates the enchant immediately. If the other player guesses right, they win the loser’s card and take a portion of the prize pool, which again this amount is determined before the game starts.   In order to win, the entire deck must be exhausted and the player must have the most cards. The winning prize is the entire prize pool.

Components and tools

It starts out with a collection of 54 cards, which is of a typical deck in Islemaria. The ranking is as follows from highest to lowest; Dryad, King, Queen, Jester, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, and 2. The suits are Rain (Faeln), Sun (Zuna) Leaf (Klaucius), and Snowflake (Krynolst).

Participants

Each of the players gets an even amount of the cards of the 54 card deck and are set face down in front of the player to draw from. The max of this is three players, but four players may be accommodated by taking out two jesters out of each deck. The popular way of deciding which jester to subtract is to figure out which season each player was born in and the least represented seasons shall be the cards that are subtracted. If each of the seasons are well represented, then two seasons at random are subtracted.
