Wyrm
"Nothing can satiate my hunger, for it is eternal"
The All Maw
Wyrm is the Ventara of greed, gluttony, and everlasting hunger. Wyrm is to regarded as one of the more "simple" Ventara, as his goals are just that: to consume anything and take the rest. Unfortunately for all parties involved, Wyrm's hunger can never be satiated. For every thing consumed his hunger only deepens driving him to devour more and more; some even believe he has devoured parts of himself to sate his appetite.
Wyrm cares little for deception or elaborate plans, instead preferring direct action and overwhelming, grotesque assaults. It is said Wyrm is true to his word, no matter how disturbing those words may be.
Religion and Culture
Wyrm is relatively well known across Iskara but is considered more of a minor Ventara; a sentiment even held amongst his kin.
The Madurans know Wyrm as Whenua, The Bloated One. He is classified as more of a minor threat within the Clan of Dusk, a grouping of evil Ventara. Wyrm is very much seen in a negative light, an affront to the balance and harmony many Madurans seek. As such Baal has enjoyed taking whatever he could from the Madurans, disrupting their balances and forcing them to take more from their home than the land can provide. To take more from the world than one can give back is extremely taboo to the Maduran people and to them Wyrm is the embodiment of this avarice and disregard for the world that nurtured and provided for them.
Among the Sareni Wyrm is held in a position of particular distaste. The Sareni value their communities greatly and Wyrm's influences are seen as the inverse of such values. The Sareni, especially those of Nekova, seek to give back to the groups that have provided for them and view overconsumption and avarice to be a great weakness and a clear sign of one's character. It isn't uncommon for the common population to voice their disdain for greedy rulers, even in the face of retaliation.
In the Dominion only the Sylvithar recognize Wyrm. To the Wood Elves Wyrm is known as Orm, The Green Hunger. In Sylvithar culture Wyrm is the Ventara of eternal hunger and betrayers of the Sylvan Pact. To many of the Sylvithar the Sylvan Pact is the keystone of their society and demands that they never harm or consume any flora within their territory. In their eyes, those that succumb to their urges and hungers and renege this divine pact are shunned and made outlaws, some are even hunted. Many Wood Elves believe these individuals succumb to Wyrm's influences, seeking to satiate their personal desires and forsaking their people. Wyrm has been known to enjoy tempting the elves to give into to their hunger and become ostracized by those closest to them.
In Felvithar culture Wyrm is known as Ourolan, Winter's Hunger. Many among the Snow Elves fear Wyrm's grasp, believing it to be a threat that hides in the shadow. He may not command direct chaos or destruction but Wyrm can tip the balance shifting the scales in his favor. Given their more hostile environment resources and materials are much hard to produce and acquire, making greed and overconsumption that more dangerous. Many tales speak of self-serving elves who doomed entire villages to be taken by the frosts, especially in the early days of their people. Many scholars believe the hardships of their environment and the actions of Wyrm have shaped the Felvithar into the humble people they continue to be.
Known only as "The All Hunger" among the Arikiri, Wyrm stands in infamy among the clans. Much like their Sareni and Felvithar allies, the Arikiri deeply value their communities and clans. The Kyr'tol clan of Nekova have helped form and embrace the expansionist ideals of Nekovan society and thus view Wyrm in a different light. To the Kyr'tol Wyrm embodies more the aspects of greed and the need for more wealth and power, of which the Kyr'tol despise. The Camurai tribe have remained more traditional than their kin and have embraced their nomadic history. As such they focus on Wyrm's influences over gluttony and eternal hunger. While some permanent settlements and farms have been established those of the Camurai prefer a nomadic lifestyle. Given this choice resources can be hard to come by and must be offered equally. To take more from the clan than is required is a widespread social stigma among the Arikiri. Many believe that those who indulge in such base desires and urges are on the path to be consumed by them and Wyrm himself.
To the many Avar clans Wyrm is known as Ourbor, the Devouring Serpent. In their mythology Wyrm is foretold to consume the world itself if he is not slain before the Endavetur, a prophesized time in which winter never ends and the world is consumed by darkness. They believe Vara, their patron deity, is intended to slay Wyrm but after her disappearance during the Incursion many worry Wyrm will face no obstacle while he devours the realm.
Known as Apophix to the Ankari, Wyrm is more of a minor deity. He represents the overconsumption of resources, which can be hard to come by in the Ankar deserts. To the Isagani Ankari, Wyrm is known as the Taking Maw, a creature that consumes those that stray to far into the swamps. To the Oran Ankari, Wyrm is little more than a boogeyman as the Orans celebrate their wealth and bounties. In fact, most of those that constitute Wyrm's cults are said to be primarily from Oran.
Worship
Those that worship Wyrm typically fall under two categories: Those that wish to obtain obscene wealth that would rival empires or those consumed by their hunger and engorge themselves on the finest, or crudest, meals Iskara can offer. Most cults share the values of the former and are more akin to cabals than a fanatic cult. These cabals seek to maximize profits regardless of the consequences and the majority of the members are Orans hoping to drive out competition and solidify their holdings. Many of these groups however, don't truly worship or admire Wyrm and simply use his "blessings" to advance their goals but Wyrm pays little mind as long as he receives his tribute. Those that indulge their more basic cravings do so in gluttonous glory. These "Wyrmfeeders" as they are known among outside parties, are typically individuals of some renown who have been utterly enthralled by Wyrm's expansive appetites. These individuals honor Wyrm by growing fat off the labor and efforts of others.
Artifacts
The Cannibal's Maw
The Cannibal's Maw is a rather unique artifact in that it is placed within the user. The artifact itself is a collection of golden prosthesis that attach to the users teeth, usually the canines. They are engraved with strange runes and symbols of Wyrm. The Maw grants the ability for the user to consume raw flesh with no negative side effects and it is believed to enhance the users strength, stamina, and agility after doing so. These effects are improved if the flesh consumed is of a sentient race, thus the artifact's name. This artifact has mostly remained within hands of the "Wyrmfeeders" and outside such groups is only pursued by collectors.
Realm
The Rapacious Wastes
The Wastes, as they are commonly referred to as, is the domain of Wyrm and serves as the seat of his power. The Wastes are described as an endless sea of bones, carrion, discarded scraps, and decaying filth. The few that have managed to enter the realm and return speak of a slimy fog that permeates most of the realm and the unfathomable stench that accompanies it, some have even had their senses dulled or nullified by the pungent odor. Some describe this fog as blanketing even the sky and it flows with a mind of its own, whether Wyrm is manipulating it or it commands itself is unknown. In tandem with the fog, the putrid remains and scattered bones serve as sufficient deterrence for any individual seeking access to the heart of the Wastes. At its center lies a massive golden tower that stands despite its extremely poor condition. What lies within such a structure is unknown, as none have managed to enter its decaying halls.
Servants
Wyrm has few Isventyr under his command as he prefers to retain his power and resources. The few that do wander his realm are among the most reviled. The more dominant Isventyr of the Wastes are the Carrion Worms. These creatures are colossal in size and traverse the Wastes by burrowing through the layers of filth, consuming any flesh they can find. Their mouths are lined with thousands of jagged, rotting teeth that shred whatever is unfortunate enough to be consumed. Their bodies are bulbous and covered by pustules, gashes, and remains caught it the creature's acidic mucus coating. As one might expect the worms lack intelligence and simply relies on instinct.
The more numerous of the Isventyr in the Wastes are the Crawlers. These lanky pests scavenge and stalk the remains of the Wastes. These creatures are described as hairless, naked, primate-like creatures with long, gangly arms and legs. Their skin appears raw and wrinkled, and their faces are scrunched into permanent scowls, with their razor sharp teeth constantly bared. Their claws are jagged and covered in vile agents; one scratch is enough to infect the victim with any number of harmful diseases. The Crawlers are pack creatures and must rely on some form of cooperation in order to traverse and thrive within the realm. It isn't uncommon for Crawler packs to engage with one another and consume the victims, this has in turn led to the Crawlers growing in strength and ferocity as only the most barbaric among them survive.
