The Anrivari

"Before they became the Sareni, the Anrivari endured"

Before the Sareni there were the Anrivari, the predominate human race for much of the Dawn and Dragon Eras. While less advanced then the neighboring Vithar, the Anrivari people were more than capable in their rights. Due to their more centralized location the Anrivari grew to be both talented hunters and diplomats, traits that still persist among the Sareni.

Naming Traditions

Feminine names

Typical female names would be the feminine version of male names and aspirational personality traits.   Reni, Oriona. Ariana, Arya, Atari, Asari, Orona, Lillia were common names present even to this day.

Masculine names

Scholars speculate that males were named after the Anrivari dieties and constellations.   Tarek, Oron, Orion, Pheran, Ren, Berron, and Atar were common names that are still used among the Sareni.

Family names

It is speculated that family and surnames originate from Anrivari virtues, values, and familial ties.   Varro, Renson, Tarekson, Atrius, Aerius, Cero, Jannus, Naro, Vaunt, and Loran were common surnames.

Culture

Major language groups and dialects

From ancient carvings and tattered scrolls it is believed that the Anrivari spoke the ancestral version of Common, or Synsaren.

Culture and cultural heritage

Among what little information has been uncovered it is known that the constellations held great weight to the Anrivari tribes. These constellations are believed to represent a variety of aspects of daily life including deities, seasons, navigation, omens, and agricultural signs. However, very few complete constellations remain and most remain incomplete.   It is also heavily implied that one's tribe was also crucial to the Anrivari, a quality that persists to the modern day Sareni. It is believed that communications and inter-tribal interactions were very common. This interconnectedness served them well in the darkest of times and many see it as the sole reason the Sareni stand today.

Common Dress code

Clothing varied among the tribes depending on their location. The farther north one travels the bulkier and more insulated their average attire became. Furs, pelts, and leathers were extremely prominent and offered great protection against the elements.

Art & Architecture

Due to the constant threats the Anrivari faced there was little time for the exploration of fine arts. However, some primitive chalk drawings and tapestries have been discovered but their purpose and quality have diminished over such a long period.   While not primitive, the architecture of the tribes embodied practicality. Most buildings were large huts and tents with some wooden structures dotting the tribal grounds.

Coming of Age Rites

Some records suggest that at the age of fifteen a young Anrivari would need to travel to at least three neighboring tribes and receive their travelers mark. Scholars hypothesize the tribes would create tattooed marks by hand-tapping ink into the skin using sharpened animal bones. Once the young traveler receives these marks they return home welcomed as an honored member of the tribe.

Funerary and Memorial customs

Across what was once known as Valen lie extensive burrows filled with the fallen. Due to time, the environment, and pillagers few things of value remain within. What does remain suggests that the Anrivari wrapped their dead in clothes and placed within the burrows closest to any relatives.

Historical figures

The most renown of the Anrivari is Tarek Varro, the First Ascendant. He who led the war against the Dro'rava and ushered in an age of great change and prosperity.
