Skeletal Pines
Death of the Deeproot Pine
The Skeletal Pine, also known as the Bone Pine, is a dead and petrified tree that was once one of the vibrant Deeproot Pines that cover the entirety of the Timbers of the Furnace. Known for their bone-like visage and strong wood, these trees are most commonly found in the Dead Sea of the Timbers and are said to have some cursed properties about them. The trees of the Timbers of the Furnace are considered an oddity even to the Dwarves that live beneath the forest, but none more so than the Skeletal Pines. Early research has proven that these white bone-like trees are little more than the dead remains of the once vibrant Deeproot Pines, but even the most well-versed of Scholars have little understanding of how one transitions to the other.
Dead trees are often brittle and are suitable for little more than kindling, but the Skeletal Pines retain the hearty nature of their predecessors, making it difficult to fell or even take a single branch from the tree. Tests done by the Dwarves have determined this nearly petrified wood to be as strong as some Steel, a feat that is quite impressive.
