Oni

Regional Populations: Oni are found primarily in Taiyusha, though they also form one of the three foundations of civilization (alongside Humans and Elves).

Age Expectancy: Oni reach adulthood around 18, and are venerable around 100 years old. However, they can live up to 120 years.

The product of the prodigious Rosian Magus Master Arcanist Corris, The Oni now make up the bulk of the Taiyushan Empire’s ruling class in the southern tropics of Teras. Long Ago, the Master Arcanist gathered the families and close friends of the Magocracy to turn them into an ascended form of humankind rather than go through the process of becoming a centurion to serve. This act conducted through a ritual called the “Masque of the Sapphire Light,” turned these people into what would be known as one of Teras’ mightiest races.

Touted as the evolved form of man (according to themselves), Oni are typically various types of musclebound creatures. Their claim is backed up by the incredible physicality inherent in even their smallest citizens. Quick to gain muscle and only occasionally prone to berserker rages, An oni can be a vital asset to any battlefield or expedition into the Wilds.

Oni are further distinguished by their tusks and varied skin tones ranging from red to blue to green. Contrary to popular belief and commonly embellished depictions paid for by Taiyushan nobility, Oni can be somewhat diverse regarding physical builds. Not all oni may look like professional bodybuilders, but can also have builts like sprinters covered in wirye hard muscle.

Outside of Taiyusha, what comes to mind when one thinks of an Oni is typically that of fibrous goliaths and amazons with the earlier mentioned features. Natives of this tropicaltropic empire know better. Whether it was the Master Arcanist’s foresight, some issue with the ritual, or simply the passage of time and mingling of blood, Onikind has developed into what are sometimes called “Subclans” under the umbrella term of “Oni”.

Humanoid: By a wide margin the most common form of Onikind, The humanoid oni can range from 5 to 7 feet tall and are by far the most diverse in appearance. While red, green and blue are the most commonly seen complexions, it isn’t unlikely to see individuals with skintones analogous to Taiyushan Humans. The traits that often mark someone are always apparent in those in this classification are the appearance of tusks and horns. The jobs that those in this subclan can have are as diverse as their looks. Sometimes however it is considered a mark of pride to have more features of oni kind than less.

Goblinoid: One of the rarer mutations of Oni: The goblin seems to have sprouted up after the Master Arcanist’s ritual. This curious variant is often smaller than their kin, standing just below the height of a dwarf but taller than gnomes. Unlike their more muscular brothers and sisters, The goblinoid oni are less prone to building muscle but tend to have an affinity for quick learning and magical practices. More often than not, Goblinoid oni are often drawn (or pressured) to more intellectual disciplines such as magic. It would be false to say that Goblins do not ever serve in combat roles; many scouts in the Taiyushan Military tend to consist of Goblinoids.

Trollkin: If there is one word that could describe Trollkin, It is “Power”. Standing at around 7 feet or taller, These oni are the epitome of physicality that is often looked up to and feared by the other two subclans. Often these individuals tend to be warriors, shock troopers in the Taiyushan military, or craftsmen as their physical strength and durability are second to none in the empire.

Oni Special abilities: Oni have 1 additional Hit Point when engaged in PVP or PVE Dice Events.

Stats: Oni start with a point in Survival or Logistics (chosen at Character Creation).

    Legends and Lore:

Common:
  • Humanoid and Trollkin oni are particularly prone to berserker rages. There are many a tale of oni soldiers fighting on past reasonable injury or even dismemberment to take a few more lives from their enemies.
  • Goblinoid are mischievous and cunning creatures with a knack for gaining wealth on par with gnomekind.
  • Oni prize fitness and self-sufficiency almost as most as their faith. An oni who is not trying to seize their fate is often seen as lesser than his kin. The amount of muscle one has and their ability in combat often translate into desirability.
  • Male oni tend see their tusks as marks of fertility, particularly among the trollkin. Larger tusks may be decorated by those bearing them to draw attention to them in the form of scrimshaw like patterns.
  • It is believed that the color of an oni’s skin is indicative of their deeper character (usually held by those who don’t interact with many) Typically it is assumed blue are constantly calm and collected, Red are passionate and quick to anger, Green and Grey are considered somewhere in the middle.
  Uncommon:
  • Oni horns are often considered marks of one’s arcane talents among mage circles. Some oni are prone to having their horns grow faster/larger over time if they are commonly affected by spells and the powerful magic of the wilds.
Broad-shouldered and muscular, these beings are both respected and feared. Created by the retainers of Master Arcanist Corris, they have become one of the major races in Taiyusha over time. Outside of Taiyusha, these often blue-skinned people are stereotypically seen as massive and aggressive, boasting some of the most formidable warriors in the world.
