Kobold

A brief scurry makes it's way across the floor in the dark tunnels of the ships larder.  "Did you hear that captain" the Chef whispers, holding his pan tightly around the handle.  The captain puts a finger up to her mouth for silence, as she steps slowly towards the noise.  A trail of bread crumbs leads to a closed door as the captain slowly puts one hand on the handle, the other tightening its grip on her blaster.  She looks back and silently counts down "3...2...1...". The door swings open, blaster armed, the coils inside vibrating with electric energy.  The light emitting reflects off the large round eyes of a small Kobold, it's toothy maw agape for another bite, but paralyzed in fear under the two towering shipmates.  Silence persists as the Kobold slowly puts the muffin down.  Finally the awkward pause is broken"....oh no....This not my house.  How I get here?" it sheepishly says in the worst lie the captain has heard all year.

The draconic virus effects all living organisms: plants, animals, sometimes even effecting the earth and atmosphere of an entire planet. While there is still so much to learn about the virus, one thing that has been discovered early on is that it manifests itself differently in everything and that the smaller species of the galaxy get it incredibly rough. With less mass to work its way through, the virus attacks the central nervous systems of Halflings, Gnomes and the like in a way that it isn't able to effect larger species. This leads to a change in personality; more feral, skittish, and scrappier than the larger Dragonborn. These afflicted have become colloquially known as Kobolds.

The Littlest Dragons

Much like the Dragonborn, the Kobolds range in coloration and physical shape, based both on how the virus manifested in their lineage as well as the genetic structure of their original genome. They still maintain the dragon-like appearance, but the virus deform their bodies more, making them appear scrawnier and more emaciated as well as not having the breath weapon capabilities of the larger afflicted. This causes the kobold to need to eat more regularly in order to survive. Whereas an average humanoid eats 3-4 meals a day, the kobolds need to eat 3x that much to maintain a healthy physique.

Survival of the Scrappiest

Survival and the hunt for food is the first and foremost priority of the Kobolds. Most live on scraps in the cities, or are taken into care of more caring and nurturing Dragonborn in the few Dragonborn colonies out there. With regards to the rest of the world, they are cute nuisances at best and rodents at worse. Many kobolds have to resort to stealing food and sleeping in sewers just to make it to the next day. When kobold communities do get together, its to form tiny gangs and families of mutual care, running grifts and elaborate schemes to provide for everyone. This is usually a last resort, as most Kobolds work hard to gain the protection of Dragonborn communities, much to the dismay of some Dragonborn.

Part of Draconic Society

Similar to the Dragonborn, the Kobolds don't have a "home planet" per se. Most Kobolds consider the planet they were birthed and raised as their home planet despite how they often do not feel accepted and rarely only leave if they can hitch a ride.  While the Dragonborn and many supporters have been fighting to earn them the right as their own species in the UGN, the Kobold's don't expect to get that distinction.  It is expected that they will be looped as part of a larger new draconic society.  Most are perfectly fine with this, as that just means they will have a better means to protect themselves.

Reason to Travel

Most commonly Kobold travel simply because they are on the right ship at the right time.  It is very rare that they would have their own funds, and so many sneak onto ships and hide in a larder undetected for weeks or even years at a time.  Some offer services for protection or travel, usually manual labor but occasionally a self-educated kobold will have the skills to fill an important role on an independent ship.

Civilization and Culture

Ancestral Traits

You have the following ancestral traits that all Kobolds do.

Size. Your size is Small.

Speed. Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Darkvision. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can't discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Sunlisht Sensitivity. You have disadvantage on attack rolls and on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on sight when you, the target of your attack, or whatever you are trying to perceive is in direct sunlight.

Lifespan
Age. Kobolds reach adulthood at age 6 and can live up to 120 years but rarely do so.
Average Height
2'1" + 2d4
Average Weight
25 lb. x 1 lb.

Cultural Traits

The Kobolds of the galaxy have no full culture of their own.  Much like the Dragonborn, they are forced to survive in the outskirts of society.  Unlike the Dragonborn, the virus has hit their smaller frames much harder and they tend to be at the bottom of the sociological food chain.  They live life being viewed by others as skirting the line between sapient species and pest.

Ability Score Increase. Your Dexterity score increases by 2, and your Strength score is reduced by 2.

Alignment. The way the Draconic virus has affected smaller physiologies (specifically the central nervous system) has caused them to act a little more feral, making them tend towards chaos.

Grovel, Cower, and Beg. As an action on your tum, you can cower pathetically to distract nearby foes. Until the end of your next turn, your allies gain advantage on attack rolls against enemies within 10 feet of you that can see you. Once you use this trait, you can't use it again until you finish a short or long rest.

Pack Tactics. You have advantage on an attack roll against a creature if at least one of your allies is within 5 feet of the creature and the ally isn't incapacitated.

Language. You can speak, read, and write Common and one other language.  Usually this is the primary/secondary language of your homeworld or of your lineage before the Draconic Virus.
