Human

The sweat on Callum's brow begins to drip. They recognize that this moment was a long time coming, but it never felt real until this moment. They hop down from their still floating ship, the sound of the hover thrusters nearly deafening. In the distance three short, squat creatures slowly approach: no arms, two frog-like feet, four eyes and a beak - or at least they think it's a beak - the only way to not let the pressure of first contact take over their nerves is to continually compare this alien creature to something they can comprehend from home. Callum steps forward, saying nothing as they try to figure out if these creatures are even sapient. "Come along human" the creature says in near perfect common, "let us discuss your visit over what you call 'Tea'".

Humans have had generations of near-space travel under their belts, but it wasn't until the entered the wider galaxy did they make their mark. Adaptable, free-thinking and as varied as the stars themselves, humans are the first to push their boundaries and truly study what lies beyond the stars.

A Rich Tapestry

There is no typical human, and some humans are so diverse that non-humans believe they are different species. An individual Human can stand from 5 feet to a little over 6 feet tall and weigh anywhere from 125 to 250 pounds. Human skin shades range from nearly black to very pale, and hair colors from black to blond (curly, kinky, or straight males might sport facial hair that is sparse or thick. Humans are also the most susceptible to natural genetic anomalies and unnatural mutations (affected by outside materials), which lead to even more variation than the other humanoid races.

A Legacy of Adaptation

On average, humans are one of the most ambitious and emotionally adaptable species. They have widely varying tastes, morals, and customs in the many different planets where they have settled. When they settle, though, they stay: they build cities to last for long centuries. An individual human might have a relatively short life span, but a human nation or culture preserves traditions with origins far beyond the reach of any single human's memory. They live fully in the present-making them well suited to the adventuring life-but also plan for the future, striving to leave a lasting legacy. Individually and as a group, humans are opportunists, and they stay alert to changing political and social dynamics.

Home is Where the Heart is

The human's home planet of Earth is a monument to the Human's early ambition. Every inch of land (and even some of the ocean) is covered in industrial city, with bright lights and entertaining sounds loud enough to pierce the atmosphere. Ruled by the five Incorporated Nations of Earth, every part of life on the planet is tied to branding, commercialization and capitalism. With no space left to expand on the planet, smaller nations and corporations began moving to the neighboring planets in the Milky Way. This corporate bleeding of the Human homeworld was a big reason for the mass exodus that caused nearly half the planets population to leave the galaxy for greener pastures. Many humans view the United Galactic Nations UGN as their primary governing body and whatever planet the colony they grew up on presides as their homeworld. Where a human of earth will still refer to themselves as human, a human from Galdus might refer to themselves as Galdusian.

Reason to Travel

Humans who seek adventure are the most daring and ambitious members of a daring and ambitious species group. They seek to earn glory in the eyes of their fellows by amassing power, wealth, and fame. Humans dream of immortality, but (except for those few who seek undeath or divine ascension to escape death's clutches) they achieve it by ensuring that they will be remembered when they are gone.
