In the distant past, [name] was very similar to Earth in the 60s. During the Cold War, the US and their allies (NATO) were desperate to gain the upper hand against Russia. NATO performed experiments on homeless people, and other people they believed would not be missed to try and create a group of people who would have power like the mythical gods of the past. They called this Project Hercules. There were few successes, but even they did not last long. Eventually, NATO decided that they were wasting money on the project and ordered all the facilities around the world to be abandoned and evidence destroyed all evidence. The scientists burned records and killed almost every person they experimented on. Almost.   There were a few survivors in each facility. They escaped and tried to integrate back into society. Some died alone, but safe. Others had families and were shocked to see that their children were born with powers, similar to the ones that they had. Families became secretive and protective of those that had powers. Each generation, 2-3 children were born with abilities that evolved from their ancestor. As time grew on, some families were discovered and outed to the public. They were feared and persecuted for their powers. The government hunted them down and killed them if they were lucky.   The families went into hiding and integrated into the criminal underground. Drug Cartels, Mafia, and Terrorists are a few examples of the ones they hunted. They turned into vigilantes and protected their communities. The government may want them, but not their neighbors; Not the kids who are terrified of the gangs, not the women who hate walking in the dark. The families know their dark history and are in contact with each other. Their headquarters are in Rome, Italy. Their Monikers are reminiscent of the ancient Roman Gods as well as the Project Hercules. They are known as the Di Selecti.
