The Barbarians/Hillriders/Rider'de Hill

The Barbarians are warriors living mainly on the Great hills, but some smaller groups have spread out and live on the fields and in the mountains. Although the tribes may live in different parts of Inonaa, they share the same principles of bravery, honor and strength.   When the Old folk came from the mountains they started living together with the folk from the other side of the sea, but some never made contact with the Old folk and instead started living in western Inonaa. These are the people who became the Barbarians.   These sometimes cruel but skilled warriors hunt mainly with bows, but can use different weapons depending on the situation. They ride on special Rankan horses and sometimes train wild Hanvaj to be their companions. Some tribes also keep Willowbison, and some even use them in battle. They also keep completely quiet when riding into battle in order to instill fear into their opponents.   While most people in Inonaa know this group as "The Barbarians", the barbarians themselves refers to their people as the "Rider'de Hill", or as The great farmers would say, "Hillriders".   The main group of barbarians are currently led by the respected but feared warrior Canwaar.   Banishment from barbarian tribes is fairly common, due to a lot of strict rules and traditions that have to be followed. Some of the barbarian outcasts join raider gangs when excluded from their tribe or form their own tribes of "rogue" barbarian. These tribes rarely follow the strict rules of barbarian lives, but still use barbarian armor and tools.       Traditions   The song'de hunt-After a hunt or battle, the barbarians will gather around a campfire and sing a song about one of their battles. They have a special type of singing where the person singing smacks their own chest and throat, as well as a drum to sing in a specific way.   Cry'de spirit-After a wild animal is killed, a barbarian makes a small altar of rocks and offers a silent prayer for the spirit, as a way of asking for forgiveness for killing one of Silvernoaris children.       Religion   Their version of spiritpractice revolves around the balance of their two gods Silvernoaris and Rarombull, representing nature and peace, and mankind and violence. They believe both are necessary for balance, but it's important not to let the mankind part overbear on the nature part. Man should always respect nature and the spirits, which they believe to be a part of Silvernoari.   Barbarians see animals as their equal, and most warrior's form bonds with their horses and Hanvaj. This makes hunting very special, and all hunters offer a prayer to the spirit of whatever animal they have killed out of respect.   They respect and honor the spirits who play a big part in nature. They also see spirits less as mythical beings and more of a part of nature. They also believe magic is something that should belong only to spiritbeings and it is forbidden for humans to use it.       Culture(food, clothing, arts)   In the barbarian, or Hill rider society, traditions and family are important, as well as skills vital to survival.   Barbarians have made pretty significant technical advancement, considering how they appear to be relatively simple in culture and tradition. They have made a lot of inventions with just wood and rope.   Fry'de Hunter- A on-the-go meal usually made by hunters, made from pinehats, some meat, preferably something fat, leeks and ramberries. It's all fried in one pan and then eaten.

Societal norms and rules

Rank can be seen based upon what clothing a Barbarian is wearing; if he is wearing simple leather armor and hide to cover his face , they are a normal soldier or hunter, someone who wears a cape of animal hide and a mask resembling an animal is a higher ranked warrior leader.   Women are often tasked with taking care of weapons, armor and animals, but can sometimes hunt. They are, however, not allowed to wield a sword or take part in combat.   You don’t really trade and buy things, but instead your work for those around you, since you mostly work and live with family.   There are a lot of rules when it comes to battle and hunting. For example; you’re not supposed to show any skin while fighting. A lot of people take these rules into normal life too.   The barbarians society is made up out of different families and each of these has one or more elders representing them. It is these elders that rule over a lot of the barbarians population.

Relation to other groups

Since the war between the Great farmers and Barbarians, propaganda and hate between the groups spread. Though barbarians are peaceful and respectful in nature, most other groups see them as barbaric and uncivilized, hence the name.
