The Tale of The Twilight Shades

"Ages ago, in a place beyond time, space, and Infinitum, agents of the sun and moon convened together in a place almost as infinite as Calypso's own Infinitum City. A paradise of darkness, with the light of its own personal sun and moon which could be controlled as though they were cosmic playthings. The species so strong as to do this were known as the Twilight Shades, equally at peace in either environment. Without further ado, here to recant you all in this court with the tale of the rogue Twilight Shade, Eclipse, I proudly present Lord Titan of Infinitum. Ruler supreme of our infinite city in the clouds and former of every law we hold dear. The one and only, Calypso!"

Cheers erupt from every angle of the massive courtroom, filled with so many people it makes your head spin. Wait... Eclipse? THEY KNOW!? Wait a moment... what does he know about me? Anything I didn't write down myself? "Is" there anything I didn't write about myself? The Master of Services takes his place upon his massive, gilded throne. It dominates the room without his presence already, but when he rests upon it, all others vanish from my own personal view, and no matter where I turn, his image follows it. I swallow hard, as I hear my story told to me in the judging, commanding voice that only the leader of our city can possibly provide.

"It is said, that a completely well rounded and at ease Twilight Shade can take advantage of every form of Nirvanic influence. They could pull things such as being everywhere at once, being invisible to the naked and untrained eye, melt into their own shadows, take on any possible form limited only by the shade's imagination, and the stories told about their accomplishments are grandiose and unlimited.

However, there is a problem with the Twilight Shade species. They always seem to think of themselves as either a true, godlike entity spreading goodness in the world, or the evilest, most sinful creature imaginable. There is nothing in-between. There is no nuance. Only the truth their sun and moon bring.

For one to truly represent the everchanging nature of the moon, something realm shattering needed to occur to get the race of Twilight Shades out of their complacency. That, my friends and faithful legions of angels, is why I, Calypso, set upon their land with a great shadow. One of their own, to wipe out their entire existence! It was the only way the truth of this mythos could be heard by the public!"

Wait just a minute.... that shadow plaguing my nightmares... is he implying that.... "NO!" I scream out loud with all my power. "I DID NOT KILL..."

"Hush little gnat." Suddenly my lips vanished from my face. I try to change it back, but Calypso is of course... too strong to be fought against. My mind finally relents, and the trial continues. "As I had been saying... if the little gnat is ready to admit to their guilt finally, I set Eclipse himself upon his race to exterminate all of his friends and family. One by one, all consumed by all-consuming infinite darkness. MY infinite darkness. I protected this city through demanding they be wiped off the face of the earth, and this gnat, this disgusting creature, was all too willing to take up the mantle of personal exterminator." He actually began laughing and it came through, booming in my eardrums. Nearly enough to break them into pieces.

"So, you see, the Twilight Shades were arrogant and infinitely powerful. No city of Infinity can be allowed to challenge this one, so I did the only reasonable thing. I played upon the willpower of one of their own and enslaved this little gnat for the benefit of this entire city. He will never escape, no matter what tricks he pulls. I immediately know his tricks the second he thinks them up. I also have contingencies planned in case of any little gnat trying to usurp our throne over the cosmos. He believes in an even higher paradise. A higher power than even me. How absurd of a little gnat to believe in."
