Ko'nan (Ko-nan)

In The Arid Deserts of Nefranea, the people like to burn the dead, and spread their ashes into the sand. The People of Nefranea beleive this merges their spirit with the sand. On a Day in the Nefranea month of Druuts, many creatures across Nefranea celebrate the strong winds and the long sandstorms, and take it as a sign of celebration from the dead. This ritual is not performed all over nefranea, especially not places that were not largely affected by the Nefranean revolution, but it is still very popular in most nefranean cities and Territories.

History

Ko'Nan sprung from the Nefranean revolution, in which revolutionaries burned King Konan of what was, at the time, {Country Name}, and threw his ashes into the sand dunes that surrounded his castle. over time, and the descent of the old king into historical obscurity, the ritual transformed into a tradition that was seen as highly respectful of the dead.

Execution

Ko'Nan is perfomed quite quickly after dead, while the corpse is still fresh, and the soul is seen as "still pure". The corpse is burned to ash in specially designed Nefranean Crematoriums, and then collected in a ceramic tub, decorated with paintings drawn by family members of the Deceased. this tub is then then left on its side in the middle of the desert, as it waits for the winds to pick up and spread the ashes over the dunes.

Components and tools

1 Painted Ceramic Tub is needed to put the ashes of the dead inside, and a Nefranean crematorium is needed to burn the body in the first place. if a Nefranean citizen cannot afford an offical crematorium, there are cheaper, less reputable, folk that will cremate the body.

Participants

The entire family of the dead will attend the ritual, and wait there until the ashes are swept away by the winds. In some richer families, a Priest or Cleric of Valethski will come to bless the ritual.
