Introduction to The Conscious Cosmos

NOTE: The Conscious Cosmos is a still developing project. Ideas, concepts, events, and characters are subject to change as time goes on

The Conscious Cosmos is a sci-fi space opera epic set within a semi-realistic, mysterious, dark, but optimistic universe where intelligent civilizations are extremely rare. In this setting, humanity is just one of the few intelligent species inhabiting the Milky Way Galaxy, a place filled with more than 400 billion stars where civilization could've evolved, but didn't. This world serves as both a Wiki and a way of storytelling. The story is broken up into 3 separate books that have not yet been formally written.   These books are:

  • To the Stars, Through War (Years 2066-2150)
  • Unification & Corruption (Years 2370-3114)
  • In Between The Voids (Year 7689 and beyond)

These books cover the story of humanity as we evolve into an interstellar race of people. At first, human colonization of space was slow but after a great blackout on Earth knocked down all electricity for a full month, all of society changed. The nations of Earth were either crumbling 3rd world countries left in the dirt, or grand superpowers in a dangerous cold war with each other. However, as humanity expanded outward into the Solar System, they were noticed by something in the darkness of space. Whatever that something is, its influence will change not only humanity's future but the galaxy's at large.   This is a story of humans coming to terms with their place in the universe, and how they will carve their place in the universe. It is a story of hope, loss, greed, optimism, technological advancement, corruption, survival, war, mystery, and ultimately utopian transcendence. It should be noted that Conscious Cosmos is still being worked on and new concepts are sure to arise while old ones get replaced. All content presented in this world is subject to change with time.

The Eras of Humanity

The Conscious Cosmos timeline is broken up into five different eras: The Dawn Era, The Unification Era, The Corrupt Era, The Imperial Era, and the Galactic Era. Each of these eras are part of serious turning points in human and galactic history.

The Dawn Era (1969 CE to 2150 CE)

by Byrner201
Starting when mankind first landed on the Moon and ending with the founding of the United Terran Republic, the Dawn Era is the time went humanity reaches outward beyond Earth. By 2050, most of Earth's nations were left behind as practically 2nd or 3rd world countries. Other countries, like the United States, the United Confederal Republic of Africa, or the People's Republic of China, became superpowers in a dangerous new cold war with each other. Colonies of the Moon, Mars, and some asteroids have been set up during this highly contested time. However, human history will forever be changed in 2054, when the ESA's Zeus-11, a standard colony spaceship on-route to Mars, suddenly disappears without explanation.

The Unification Era (2150 CE to 2647 CE)

by Francoyovich
The Unification Era was the time when the United Terran Republic ruled most of human-controlled space--an area encompassing between 30 to 50 light-years away from the Solar System known as the Settled Heavens. Life during this time was almost utopian with life extension tech, advanced spaceflight, fully colonized planets, and a strong democratic government focused on equality and science. Life for the first time was discovered beyond Earth during this time, although it wasn't intelligent enough to create civilization. However, despite all the good the United Terran Republic was accomplishing, cracks in the system were starting to show.

The Corrupt Era (2647 CE to 3112 CE)

by Simonfetscher
In 2647, a cataclysmic event called the Interstellar Collapse caused millions of AIs to go rogue, interplanetary nukes to explode, and hyper-advanced technologies to malfunction. This event caused more than 3 trillion deaths alone across the many settled stars. From this great catastrophe, the United Terran Republic became weak and inefficient at staying together, causing many different splinter governments to rise in its stead. Megacorporations like Alpha Star Industries, the S.C. Bio-Dyne Corporation, and Damian & Roe Inc. quickly rose in power and became just as, if not more, powerful than the weakened governments of the Settled Heavens. These megacorporations used many dirty tactics to stay in power, including the exploitation of people and planets, the bribing of government officials through corruption, and corporate propaganda.   First Contact with another alien race occurred in 2926 CE when humans discovered the Brek and their homeworld of Agentha. At first, human and Brek relations were positive, but soon turned sour as corporations began to exploit the less technologically advanced Brek, eventually culminating in many wars between the two factions.

The Imperial Era (3112 to 3352 CE)

Humanity makes Second Contact with an alien race called the Drahlo. The Drahlo are an advanced alien race that lives in a religious dictatorial empire called the Falmir Imperial Union. The Falmir Imperial Union would launch a war campaign against the United Terran Republic and the Agenthian Federation for refusing to be incorporated into the empire. The war ended with Imperial victory with the destruction of the planet Centauri Prime and the burning of Earth's atmosphere. Both humanity and the Brek became slave races to the Union. Some humans and Brek were able to escape and hide on starships among the expanse of stars and would be called Solarians by other races.

The Galactic Era (3352 to 7689 CE)

by Vadim Sadovski
The Galactic Era is the current era of the setting and is the main perspective era presented in Wiki articles. Humanity and the Brek, with some assistance from another alien civilization, known as the Republic of Al' Cathion, formed a slave rebellion against the Falmir Imperial Union. The rebellion was successful and the many different planets and star systems formed an alliance that created the Solarian Federation. The Solarian Federation followed in the footsteps of the United Terran Republic and has created a utopian society that incorporates humans and aliens as equals. Earth is rediscovered and restored to its former glory, highly advanced and sophisticated technology is becoming more commonly used by everyday people, post-scarcity is drawing closer by the day, and life at this time couldn't be better. Still, however, mysteries abound and threats from beyond may prove to be humanity's greatest challenge.
