Paladin

At one point in time before the Empire the Paladins of the Holy Heart were a group of Holy Knights whose job was to do the bidding of the church and stomp out unholiness, barbarousness ,  and Infidels in the name of The Order of the Holy Heart. 

During the rule of Emperor Alduin III (3rd Era, year 417), militarized religious groups were made illegal in the Empire. However Alduin III was so impressed with the obedience and effectiveness of the Paladin's that  he made the remaining Paladins his special police group.


Where town guards and militias would defend the towns and enforce the laws, the Paladin's were given jobs that fell outside the purview of guards. 


During the rule of  Emperor Gaceus "The Coward" (3rd Era 1353) the Paladins had the dubious honor of being the Emperors secret police, carrying out hits, collecting bribe money, blackmailing, among other things the Emperor was found guilty of before his execution.


Since the time of Gaceus the Paladins have reverted back to the original ideals that Alduin III set forth, but tales of the misdeeds of the Paladins has left a dark cloud that hangs over their name to this day.
