The Prime Deities

These are the creator gods who bring life and light to the world. They protect it from the Dark Gods.
  • AVANDRA, THE CHANGEBRINGER: the goddess of freedom, trade, travel, and adventure. She encourages her followers to venture into the unknown. Avandra is usually depicted as a young woman with dark skin and brown hair that flows into a road behind her. Her nature leads to very few temples dedicated to her in the center of civilization, but more can be found near well-traveled roads. Her worshippers include merchants, free spirits, and adventurers. • BAHAMUT, THE PLATINUM DRAGON: deity of good aligned dragons and metallic dragons. He is currently the only known platinum dragon in existence. Bahamut is the sworn enemy of his sister, Tiamat. Is it commonly believed that Bahamut is the flame, lying in the belly of Moradin's forge. (LG)
  • CORELLON, THE ARCHEART: the deity of arcane magic and the fey. In the new Beginning, the Archeart wandered the lands, spreading magic and helping Melora to raise forests and hidden places. The Archeart created the first elves, so they are considered the Mother and Father of all elves. Corellon is commonly depicted as an impossibly graceful and beautiful elven being. They are androgynous and alluring, with long golden hair. The worshippers of the Archeart are those who seek art in all their work, both magic and mundane. Their followers loathe the Spider Queen and her priestesses for leading the drow elves astray, and by their word, are quick to accept back those who reject Lolth. (CG)
  • ERATHIS, THE LAWBEARER: the goddess of civilization and laws. The Lawbearer is shown as a hooded, armored woman sitting atone a throne- her face obscured and expressionless. Erathis has a tempestuous and furious romantic relationship with Melora, the keeper of the wild, and is tempered only when civilization and nature are in balance. (LN)
  • IOUN, THE KNOWING MISTRESS: the goddess of knowledge, prophecy, and skill. She opposes Vecna, who deals in dark secrets and hidden knowledge. Ioun appears as an older woman with long, silver hair and dozens of eyes gazing in all directions. She wears blue and white robes that tumble out from her form in tendrils of parchment. Ioun is frequently represented in religious iconography by either a triple eye symbol or a unique eye-and-staff symbol. Her temples are not temples, but libraries. (N)
  • KORD, THE STORMLORD: the storm god and lord of battle and warfare. Art often depicts Kord as a human-like man, barrel-chested and with massive muscles. He wears iron bracers around his wrists, is clothed in leather and furs, and his beard is long, to the middle of his chest. In one hand, he carries a shortsword, and the other, a shield. His worshippers are often opposing the followers of Gruumsh or Bane in the Scourgelands, and they see it as their divine sent duty to prevent the followers of Gruumsh and Bane from extending their reach northwards. His symbol is depicted as four bolts of lightning radiating outwards from the center of a shield. (CN)
  • MELORA, THE WILDMOTHER: the goddess of wilderness and the sea. She watches over nature and grants protection from washing away in storms, along with the safe passage of ships. Her most common symbol is a wreath of grass and wildflowers affixed to a staff, and another is a swirl carved into stone, a slow cascading spiral with a wave crest at the center. [This should not be confused with the jagged spiral sometimes used by followers of The Chained Oblivion, which is occasionally known as the Spiral of Decay.] In her role as a goddess of sea life, her symbol is often painted onto a sea shell and worn. (N)
  • MORADIN, THE ALLHAMMER: the god of craft and creation. The Allhammer is worshipped by smiths, artisans, and miners alike, granting inspiration where respect and prayer are given. He shaped the mountains during the Beginning, and stands as the patron of home and family. By his worshippers he is depicted as a faceless, stout, dwark-like being of immense strength, hunched over, and clasping within his massive hands a flaming heart. His symbol is a hammer with the ends carved in the likeness of dwarven heads. (LG)
  • PELOR, THE DAWNFATHER: the god of the sun and agriculture. He is generally worshipped by farmers and people who live off the land. Pelor wears a white cloak over an intricate golden plate of armor. Where a head would be, instead, there is a burning star. An almost featureless male head burns within the corona. His symbol is a white, eight-pointed star. (NG)
  • SARENRAE, THE EVERLIGHT: a goddess of redemption, healing, and temperance. Sarenrae is a minor deity with spheres of influence that overlap some of those of more influential deities, but she is not territorial nor jealous, and remains a somewhat neutral and aloof deity. Her main tenets are: Lead with mercy, patience, and compassion. Inspire others to unite in fellowship. Aid those who are without guide. Heal those who are without hope. Those who are beyond redemption, who revel in slaughter and remorseless evil, must meet swift justice. Her symbol is a humanoid, female phoenix. (NG)
  • SEHANINE, THE MOONWEAVER: a deity of moonlight and the autumn season, as well as the patron of illusions and misdirection. Widely worshipped within the elven, halfling, and gnomish cultures, she is largely also considered the deity of love and the protector of the trysts of lovers. Those who work in secrecy and trickery often ask for her blessing. She is most often depicted as a young elven girl with light blue skin and white hair. Her body and limbs wisp away into shadows. Her symbol is a crescent moon turned upwards, strung like a bow. (CG)
  • THE RAVEN QUEEN, THE MATRON OF DEATH: the ancient goddess of death. She is so old and mysterious that her true name has long been lost. Her followers seek her favor to guide them in death and prevent the curse of undeath from falling on them. The Raven Queen is depicted as a tall and slender woman, with flowing black hair and pale, porcelain skin. She almost always wears a blank, porcelain mask. On the rare occasions she removes it, she is described as beautiful woman with red irises. Her symbol is a white mask framed with black feathers. Her realm is beneath Shadowfell. (LN)
