Illudern

The world of Illudern is one of high fantasy, combining magic, tense politics between powerful human kingdoms, and strange otherworldly beasts being a constant threat.   The kingdoms of man have been clashing for as long as anyone can remember, going from all out war to transient ceasefires, while the demi-human races of elves, dwarves and others have taken refuge away from the volatile and short-lived humans to return to their own ancestral homes or under-mountain kingdoms, choosing most often to be among their own people than with the warlike humans.   The few rare individuals born under strange circumstances - a shooting star, a powerful storm, a sudden eclipse, or similar are known as the Fate-touched, or more commonly as the Fated; They alone hold some tenuous grasp on the strings of fate and make their way through the world valued for their ability to change the fortunes of themselves, and those who hire them. The Fated are the adventurers of the realm, able above all others to carve their own destinies and make a splash, where others may only create a ripple - but with such potential to uproot the established order, they are rarely welcomed for too long...
