Dragonborn

Dragonborn, often referred to as a Scaly or a Snout by the other races, were, if the common understanding of their history is to believed, the first attempt at breeding a soldier cast by the Dragons to fight against the elves. Using their own traits, the Dragons imbued them with intelligence through Spellstone. Despite this, the soliders were too aggressive, too short lived and, when separated from their source of magic, they quickly regressed to a more primal nature.   When away from their cultivated spellstone for too long Dragonborn regress to Troglodyte, creatures with little capacity for intellect or for high brain thinking. Even these pieces grow 'stale' if held on for too long, forcing them to constantly seek out new artifacts or sources of Spellstone. While the creatures can consume raw Spellstone to gain an immediate burst of power, this is often too short lasting and most prefer the longer lasting effects of keeping the mineral on them.   Those that remain either band together in loose tribes or individuals who are driven by preserving their remaining communities, searching for new places to start anew, or for some, looking for ways to harness Spellstone in order to either permanently separate them from their need or, to bring fallen Troglodytes back into the fold. A Dragonborn is a novelty in Ameril, one could live their entire life without seeing one. Apart from The Reach, those Dragonborn in Ameril are viewed with caution at best, and outright fear or hatred at worst. Their low numbers are indicative of the scale of destruction that The Fall had on the population. For the most part those Dragonborn who were traders, diplomats, or those who were waging war outside their great empires were the only ones who managed to survive the fate that befell most of their brethren.   For those in the know, the true nature is much more terrifying. Dragonborn are simply Dragons who have not been exposed to enough Spellstone to embrace their true form and intellect. Given enough time, and exposure a Dragonborn will eventually shift its form to that of a Dragon of old. This knowledge is well kept and only a few know of it.

A lair is nominated when a Dragonborn spends a total of least 3 months a year resting in a location.   100 pounds: +1 500 pounds:+2 2500 pounds: +3 12500 pounds: +4   SPELLSTONE SHARD Type: Trinket Weight: 1lb While on a Dragonborn's person, the energy with a Spellstone is sapped gradually. Normally a shard, typically a pound, of Spellstone would have enough latent power to maintain a Dragonborn's intellect. However when performing intellectual tasks or under duress the process is accelerated.   During adventuring or downtime not dedicated to rest, every six months a shard of Spellstone will dim and be completely sapped of it's stored power. losing it's magical property.
