Maimin Rawa

The old herbalist

Humans live on average for around eighty to a hundred years. Other hominids reach similar natural lifespans. Elves, likely due selection, live slightly longer, till around a hundred and fifty years. It has been a practice for elven Mages to prolong their own life. In fact it is a matter of prestige and power among them. The oldest and most powerful mages rule over the elven nations. There is a special title of honor called Undying given to them living past a thousand years. The downside to these long lifes is that they have to spend extended periods in deep meditation, gathering and preserving power. Humans nor Dwarves did never really strive to achieve this. Some humans have lived for several centuries, most well known is the Dauler the Great who lived for 205 years. However no human has earned the title of Undying. There is one however who comes close or might even have surpassed it already.

Age and Origins

Maimin was born before the Age of Dauler. When asked, he answers that he is eight hundred and something years old. He doesn't know his true age. His time was a different one, where not empires, but small kingdoms dominated the continent. When asked where he was born, his answer is a place unknown. He was born during the rule of King Tambarek. A small King who ruled over a Kingdom in what is now Kurnau. If asked what his first language was, he will answer that he is the last speaker of it. His people have left this world long ago and he has become a stranger in it. It seems however that he has a grasp on Alwas and that his mother tongue might be one of the lost continental relatives to Alwas, showing certain similarities to that language.   Some people have tried finding out his year of birth. He apparently doesn't care much for it himself. During the reign of Tambarek they found a family called Rawa. One document states the birth of a son, which would date his birth around 220 years before the Battle of Illangar. He would be, according to this in his 950s.

The Circle of Herbalists

The extreme lifespan of Maimin Rawa can be attributed to his herbological knowledge. He is certainly blessed with the Gift of Magic to an amazing degree. His art of magic in particular is unique, but related to the Paklau Martmun or Druids of Alwaein. According to himself he did spent quite some time on Alwaein, but when he was already a herbalist. He was taught by the druids, but also instructed them in his own arts.   Over time gathered a small community of followers, which were simply called the Circle of Herbalists. They did indeed make it their goal to live as long as the trees. Something unique among humans mages, especially as magic had been rarely professionalised during this time. The Circle was noted to be active during the reign of Dauler. At some point, likely in the fourth century, new pupils stopped coming to the Circle and its members dispersed throughout the world. It seems that all members, but for Maimin himself have died or disappeared in history.

The Human Undying

During the current era Maimin is the oldest (widely known) human individual. He lives as a hermit and travels around the northern parts of the Daulerim Empire, although he is also known to have be seen far away from its borders.   His physical appearance is rather eerie. His body is frail, very thin and completely hairless. His lips are thin and his eyes sunken deep into their holes. His skin is wrapped tightly to his body, giving him the appearance of a walking sceleton. In a way he mostly consists of bone and muscle, with a leathery skin wrapped around it. Despite this he seems healthier and more agile than most men in their prime. He walks constantly and sleeps in the wilderness without shelter. Most of the time he only wears a skirt around his waist. His physical strength is surprising to anyone.   He has a friendly and peaceful demeanor and is happy to talk to strangers, yet he rejects every friendship or long lasting bonds. The reason for this is the overwhelming sadness of loss he had experienced trough his old age. Despite this sadness, he does not regret chosing the path of immortality, as is connection to the natural world has filled him with much joy and a peace that could never be achieved else.   He does not wish to intervene in politics, yet is always happy to counsel people. In the past several Kings and Emperors have sought his guidance. He however cannot offer much. He can show them the way of peace, but this peace he has chosen is not the guidance, which those seeking power desire.
