Phoneix

Little is known about the ellusive Phoneix that lives in the westward continent of Arix. From what the party knows its blood can cause immortality in small doses.

Basic Information

Anatomy

The Phoenix resembles the long knecked Heron from antiquity, with the same basic skeletal structure, but where the bird has detailed anatomy of flesh and blood the Phoneix has metallic feathers which glow with the immense heat. It's blood is slightly amber in hue with a viscous consistency, and is said to cause immortality.

Genetics and Reproduction

Little is known about the actual reproduction of the Phoneix as no one has ever observed one reproducing. It is assumed that they are either constructed, summoned, or breed in a very specific set of cirumstances.

Growth Rate & Stages

The Phoneix goes through a series of stages through one of its periods lasting approximately 50 years. At the end of one of its cycles the Phoneix becomes "reborn" reverting back to its first stage of growth.

1. The first stage of growth is spent dormant in an egg for a period of five years. The shell is very difficult to puncture, but if injured or killed in this state the Phoneix will no longer go through its stages of rebirth. if the Phoneix suffers a fatal injury or any other life threatining ailgment it will revert back to this stage.
2. The second stage of growth is an adolecent period where the Phoneix grows from the size of a human infant to about 75% of its full size
3. The third stage of growth is the adult stage where the Phoneix achieves its maximum size. It is also the most powerful in this state gaining some magical abilities including its much sought after healing ability.
4. The final stage is Elder in which the Phoneix will start to visibly detiorate, shedding feathers and building itself a nest where it will eventually lay down and proceed to return to stage one without an explosion occuring.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

The Phoneix has an extraordinary sense for danger and location, being able to avoid attempted capture with unnerving cunning. During its Adult and Elder stages the Phoneix has access to darksight and touch based healing that is rumored to cure any illness. Upon its "death" the Phoneix engulfs the surrounding area with a huge explosion. Other than these senses the Phoneix seems to have senses akin to that of a normal Heron.

Conservation Status

The Species is usually hunted for captivation and enslavement for their healing properties. This usually occurs through forceful extraction of body parts from a youth until "rebirth" occurs, where in after the proper time has elapsed the process will occur again.
