Unlike the name suggests, the Silent War was a name that was coined by the famous
Dhoine historian
Osonia Sylra. This 600 year period of conflict is a series of micro-wars, political strife, and great divide.
Prelude
Before it became the
Allure Empire, it was known as the Allure Dynasty named after the first queen,
Queen Thalia Allure. That changed when the
Queen Eletha Allure, the 12th great-granddaughter of Queen Thalia, passed away without an heir.
She had spent much of her time trying to patch relationships between the
Dwarves and
Moon Elves of the
Sundering Mountains from the aftermath of the
The War Under the Mountain, which occured during her reign. Her death sent shockwaves through both the Allure Dynasty and the Dwarven and Moon Elf nations.
The reason it would take almost 600-years to find a new Queen, was the magic that the first Queen Thalia had shown. Each Queen was blessed by the
Heart of the Forest, a large tree at the heart of
Toradaer Shyr. If the Great Tree did not open for someone, meant that they would not be Queen.
Several communities that served under her struggled to find a Queen to replace Eletha, each with conflicting views. This tension between communities led to the infighting that would later be called The Silent War.
Political Players
Throughout the course of the conflict, a few major factions arose that vied for the power of the throne. There were 5 communities: Leoquinal, Araven, Umeyra, Virlynn, and Wynthyra. Each faction over the 600-year period at one point had a regent, but never a Queen.
Each group also made attempts at finding a Queen. Some attempts were gathering all the members of a community and attempting to find one accepted by the Heart of the Forest. None were successful and some went into extreme measures to attempt to open the Heart itself.
This brought the various Druid circles into the conflict as they started restricting access to the Heart of the Forest. The Dwarves of the
Diamond Fortress and the
Moon Elves of the
Sundering Mountains joined the conflict throughout the war.
Major Conflicts
While the Silent War was not a full out war, there were periods of conflict between the major communities.
The Battle of Araven Grove was a conflict when the Umeyra and Virlynn attempted to destroy the Araven grove. The grove was defended by the Araven and Wynthyra.
The Seige of Leoquinal Camp was a hold-out by the Leoquinal community. It started after the community attempted to assassinate the Virlynn regent. The assassination failed and it was discovered who called for the hit. After that the Virlynn community attempted to lay siege to the Leoquinal camp. The Leoquinal were eventually relieved after the Wynthyra came to their aid.
The Battle of Dragon Pass was a conflict involving none of the communities, but rather the Moon Elves and Dwarves of the
Diamond Fortress. The Moon Elves attacked a Dwarven caravan that was rumored to supply one of the communities. This dragged the Dwarves into the conflict, usually in opposition to the Moon Elves.
Resolution
The fighting came to a conflict in the most unexpected way. A traveling Wood Elf named Alanis Liara arrived to
Toradaer Shyr. In a pilgrimage to the Heart of the Forest, the tree opened up to her, the sign of a Queen. She was immediately protected by the Druids as the 5 communities wanted to reject her.
Leader of the nearby
Moon Elves,
Dhumul Ulnac put their support behind Alanis. Upon that alliance, the Leoquinal and Virlynn decided to back Alanis. After that, it didn't take long for the other communities to submit.
The newly named
Quenn Alanis Allure immediately made changes. First that she would govern with a council that would handle the matter of a Queen passing without an heir. This ended the Allure Dynasty and sparked the newly formed
Allure Empire.
Her first order of business outside of their borders were the Dwarves. They refused to work with the newly formed Empire due to their alliance with
Dhumul Ulnac. In order to keep the peace between the two, Queen Alanis disbanded her alliance with the Moon Elves to keep a non-aggression pact with all three nations. She risked an all-out war by forcing the Dwarves to make the same non-aggression pact with Dhumul. The leader of the Diamond Fortress clans,
Nonmeas Mithrilback agreed, stating that the newly crowned Queen of the Allure Empire had "a will as strong as diamond and a soul just as pure."
Comments
