The Oracle of Werno

Smoke filled the stone chamber. At the center of the circular room sat a bed of coals which now burned in a purplish light. The walls were adorned with tapestries and the floor with various rugs. Sitting in absolute silence was a woman clothed in fine green silks. Her legs were crossed and her hands were cradled between them, palms facing the heavens.   She took in another deep breath, not opening her eyes. She was not alone in the room however. With her was a man dressed in robes and clean shaven. He stood near the doorway of the chamber, eyes closed and in waiting. His breaths were infrequent and shallow.   Another deep breath.   Her eyes shot open, revealing glowing purple orbs. They burned as the coals did and she felt her body give way to another force. Images flashed in her vision, many she did not understand. Among them however were words, words that she would need to remember before the vision was done. In many cases she did not experience too many fragments of visions. Sometimes there was too few to truly get a grasp for what Werno was trying to tell her.   This time however was different. Images of great towers, raging fires, and collosal beings began to flash. Among them were people, weilding weapons that on their surface appeared mundane. She could sense it however. She could sense the overwhelming power that they held.   A shadowy hand fell over a being reathed in light. Then, darkness. The oracle for several moments could see nothing, feel nothing. She had been cast into an endless darkness that she could not seem to escape.   Suddenly she came to. She was still within the chamber but seemed to have fallen prone. The robed man was looking down at her, her head cradled in his hands.   "Are you alright, Oracle?" he asked. Concern was stitched into his words.   "I am alright, Bastion." She slowly raised herself to a sitting position. She rubbed her forehead. These images had been burned into her mind. All she could see was the raging fires and the figure in light. What had occured before those? They had seemed so normal.   "Leave me, Bastion," she said. "I need to rest and think upon what Werno has shown me."   "Very well my lady." he said. He stood and bowed before leaving the chamber.   The Oracle rested among various cushions and pillows that were at the fringes of the room.   "This does not bode well."

Appointment

When an Oracle of Werno dies, they are reborn immediately. Protectors of the Oracle record the exact time, and search the lands for any children born at that time. A set of toys that was owned by the previous Oracle is presented among a mass of other toys to attempt to discern the reincarnated Oracle.

Duties

The Oracle's only duty is to carry the message of Werno. Individuals may seek the Oracle's word, however the Oracle may not have words for them.

Benefits

As the messenger of Werno, the church keeps the Oracle under protection and supplies every earthly desire.
