The War of the Haro Minnaou

Background: A series of convincing and patriotic speeches at a religious conclave in Ospos that also coincided with territorial interests in the Peleganese sea resulted in a hard line negotiations that eventually turned into open hostilities between Ospos and Caramar. Several navel and airship skirmishes eventually ballooned into a crisis when a Caramarese warship shot down the Haro Minnaou, a neutral passenger vessel that had not properly identified itself.   The War: Various nations condemned the attack, with several that had lost people publicly supporting Ospos. Then, a few months later, Ospos itself sank a Ulangalian merchant ship which triggered a declaration of war and swift counterattack. Coloth-Anan, Priagia, Aventhyr, Braurias and Ulangal fought with Caramar, forming the Pelagan Alliance. Gautar and Ularlaba sided with Ospos, becoming the Rethyri Confederation. Gorvlka and Lachise remaining neutral. Nagazar had a long running conflict with Ulangal which reached a new intensity and nominally at war with both Ospos and Ulangal though only meaningfully engaged Ulangal.   Escalation: This was the first major conflict to involve panzergeist beyond simple scouting and skirmishes, seeing large scale deployment and devastating effectiveness against regular infantry. Ospos had a major technological advantage in the opening stages of the war that crushed Aventhyr and Priagia.   The Summit at Pactus: It was at that point a joint cooperation took place between Ulangal, Caramar, and Coloth-Anan occurred, with secret help being offered by secular Osposi defectors who opposed the religious extremism of their government. With the rapid development and deployment of comparable panzergiests and the construction of a large airship force, the war looked to swing in favor of the Pelegan Alliance. Then Ospos deployed a new superweapon; The Angel of Vengeance, a weapon platform that obliterated the invasion force at the Cleansing of Kousis, where the Pelegan Alliance had landed on the shores of Ospos. They would go on to deploy it at the Battle of Dothmor, the Massacre at Rohton and destroying the Aventhyr city of Mynkon and the Ulangal city of Shronqosi.   Unexpected consequences: Beyond blasting apart people, animal, and armor, weapon's residual effects would occasionally leave twisted mutants of survivors and what was termed "soulglass" or "ghostglass" which seemed to be the solidified fragments of a living being's essence. The use of this weapon seemed to awaken heretofore unknown entities; the Fletchers/Flensing Fiends, Putrid Horrors, Ululari.   Aftermath: The war slowed in the face of these strange monstrosities. Despite the growing opposition of their allies to the strangeness and danger of repeated uses of their new weapon, Ospos pressed on in continuing the war until the previous minority party made large gains in their election, taking control and suing for peace with the Pelegan Alliance.
