Dreamwood

A species of tree said to have been cultivated by Liskara Donquare near the founding of the Old Rethyr, older specimens have been found since, but still popularly called "Liskara's gift".   Bark as smooth as velvet and blue-violet leaves that whisper words in strange tongues. It is said to take on peculiarities of wherever it grows. Those who live near such locations say it reflects the character of a place. They speak of arcane dreams - ranging from the sublime to terrifying to the incomprehensible.   Where dreamwood grows, it is generally left undisturbed for the stories of howling and screams that assaults the mind and soul or mortal nightmares that leave those who harm it catatonic or dead, are known and believed.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Grow long, twisting limbs that while solid, slowly soften to the touch over time while growing more dense. Some of the oldest dreamwoods have trunks as hard as iron. The flowers begin as midnight blue buds that purple over time.

Genetics and Reproduction

Has large, silky seed bulbs that grow once a tree reaches maturity around a hundred years old. Generally begin growing in areas of high psychic resonances; large human populations, Cimbrean enclaves and occasionally in ancient ruins.

Depending on the concentration of psychic resonance, the trees will grow faster

Ecology and Habitats

Generally prefers temperate to tropical climates, usually grow together in small to medium groves in both urban, suburban and occasionally rural areas

Biological Cycle

Generally sheds leaves in the fall

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Seem to speak in unknown, whispered languages that can be heard just on the edge of perception. No attempts at communication have rendered meaningful dialog. Can sense attempts to damage it and will retaliate with a psychic backlash, that depending on the age of the tree, can stun or kill. The effect covers an area and can easily affect bystanders.
