Pellets

What are Pellets?

Pellets are one of the most widely produced items in Tamel. They go by many names -- Rena's Remedy, Panacea, Apothecary's cure, etc. However, this is just a ploy to increase sales with the illusion of competition. Ultimately, they were invented by Mother Rena and have been produced and distributed by the Gracious Family alone. This is slowly starting to change as blue moths with similar sedative and hallucinogenic properties have begun flitting around lampposts in Raven's Ward, and some have found a way to crush and refine them into counterfiet pellets.

Currency

Pellets act as currency in Tamel. Some vendors are only willing to trade certain items for pellets, and they have a value of roughly 15gp. As word gets out about the counterfiets however, the price may drop over time in your campaign (at the dm's discretion). Similarly, some vendors are willing to trade pellets for items you may be carrying, following a similar exchange rate.

Rena and the Moths

Only recently has the Gracious Family been doubted by Tamel's populace, and none more so than Mother Rena. As the Concordance fills the skies with Ley, blue moths have begun to flit around the dull lampposts littering the streets. While innocuous to many, a few curious souls discovered that these creatures have similar hallucinogenic properties to Pellets when crushed and refined. Despite efforts to keep this under wraps, Mother Rena's creation of these narcotics has been called into question. Now the role of women as a whole has been cast into shadow throughout Tamel, as the only two female members of the Family were a fugitive Owl and this supposedly lying illusionist.

What do they do?

Pellets come with a slew of risks and benefits. However, years of addiction have made bad experiences less likely among the common populace and all the more frightening to outsiders. Most of these effects are either hallucinogenic or sedative in nature.

Hallucinogenic Effects


The biggest draw to pellets, for citizens at least, is their strong psychadellic property. Anything you want to see or experience can be shown to you with these little pills. This extends to physical sensation and auditory experiences as well -- many report hearing the voices of friends they've never known, or a warm breeze upon their skin while on pellets when neither is possible in Tamel.

Sedative Effects

The biggest reason the Family continues to produce and promote these Pellets is for their sedative properties. If a populace is sedated, they are much less likely to act against the Gracious Family's interests in any way.

Side Effects

The two most common side effects of Pellets are addiction and irridescent blue corneas. Others include permanent hallucinations or sedation, rewritten personalities, split personalities, and short term memory loss.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

Pellets are a condensed, iridescent blue powder wrapped in a thin paper. They keep their form when unwrapped.

Significance

Pellets are arguably the root of life in Tamel. They're used as payment, currency, and the first product that Tamel mass produced and distributed.
