Spiritus

Written by Roboplus

Acheron Legiuncula Spiritus (ALS) or simply Spiritus is an Acheronian creation during the latter years of their empire, most likely for war against the Hadeans. It is considered by some to be the “last straw” that resulted in the fiercest fighting between the two, before the fall of the Bael Star curtailed the conflict. While there are modern versions of Spiritus, they are largely experimental, producible in very small quantity and pale in potency compared to the original.   Spiritus is a substance derived from suffusing millions of artificial proteins with large quantities of highly processed Anima causing the substance to animate, and even display low levels of intelligence. When properly bonded to an individual (the methods of which are still lost) Spiritus could be controlled in a variety of ways, not unlike Magikinetics. The ability to coordinate with itself and it’s host allowed for its use both offensively and defensively for troops. It could be "programmed" to configure into weapons and armor, as well as a makeshift barrier in the field to intercept projectiles. Spiritus could be used to dress wounds, change color for camouflage, grab and disable nearby opposition- all while being pliable as cloth or as hard as steel, and invisible to the naked eye when at rest.
From what we know of Hadean culture, Spiritus would have been seen as a blasphemy, possibly greater even than the burning of Anima derived fuels. Their Anima-as-souls philosophy might have considered the destruction of Anima preferable to it being “imprisoned” as a weapon of their enemy.   While rare, damaged capsules of unconfigured ALS are still recovered to this day. Such containers, even depleted as they are, hold considerable value to institutions. Though progress has been slow, many researchers believe that the trace residue found within recovered containers may be the key to unlocking the secrets to this ancient marvel.
