Alchemist

I swear I have a permit!

I'd like to thank Petrizani Martina for the cover art. She has a world anvil account if you want to view more of her work.
Alchemists are practitioners of the craft known as alchemy. While anyone can learn the skill, they are masters of it. Before we dive too deeply into the topic, there's a disclaimer I want to share. One, you should read the page on alchemy; it would help you better understand an alchemist's capabilities. Two, everyone's fictional world defines alchemy and alchemists in their way; this is one of many interpretations of what an alchemist is. So now we have that out of the way, let us begin!   To list what an alchemist is capable of is almost an impossible task. All alchemists start off learning how to make potions. Then, they all start to branch out and find their specializations. An alchemist might make lotions instead of potions, bombs, or oils or combine their profession with another to create something truly unique. The one thing that holds back an alchemist is the materials available to them and their imagination. It is the job of an alchemist to explore different possibilities, but not everything has a use or combination with something else.   The role of the Alchemist is mainly to act as a supportive team member for a group. However, there have been cases of Alchemists dealing insane amounts of damage. Nevertheless, they typically have gained a few levels and made unique things for themselves. To summarize, Alchemists have a relatively slow start and only get more explosive as time goes on. Remember, the local library exists; testing and imagination are the keys for all specialists.

Career

Qualifications

Beyond just picking the class, alchemists go through years of training to become suited to earn their title once they reach the title of an alchemist.

Career Progression

Like all classes, Alchemists can rank up into advanced versions of themselves. However, alchemists have one advanced course and three master classes, like all specialists.   The advanced class is Master Alchemist. Master Alchemist allows people to make more potent potions that last longer, along with other benefits.
  1. The first master class is Apothecary. These alchemists specialize in healing alchemy. They're known for their knowledge of organisms; and how to effectively treat whatever ailments they have. They also have a good eye for the properties of different materials.
  2. The second master class is Mutagen Drinker. These alchemists specialize in making mutagens. When someone drinks their brews, it causes mutations in the body. They can fill myriad roles depending on what they put in their mutagens.
  3. The third master class is Alchemic Bomber. These alchemists decide to support their team by blowing up their enemies. While their behavior can be easily seen as them wanting to watch the world burn, they expertly craft their brews; so they don't explode themselves.

Payment & Reimbursement

Like most adventurers, they get paid by completing their quest. Typically in XP, GP, and items. However, with alchemy, they can earn extra money by selling their potions to NPCs and players or doing quests involving deliveries.

Other Benefits

The primary benefit of being an alchemist is that you will be the best at the skill. The only people who will be able to contest you are those who have a huge level difference in alchemy or another alchemist.

Perception

Purpose

An alchemist's role depends on the type of alchemy they want to involve themselves in. Typically, they are supporters. They make potions to buff their friends or brews to debuff or attack their enemies.

Demographics

Like other specialists, people would rather get the skill before picking the class. So, alchemists tend to be on the rarer side of things.

History

No one is sure who was the first alchemist. Some people suspect that the first use of alchemy was medicine since the earliest documented potions were for healing and curing poisons. But since cultures are vast, alchemy has splintered into multiple different disciplines, becoming almost like magic in the aspect of complexity.

Operations

Tools

The primary tool that an alchemist uses is their alchemy set. This comes with all the basics an alchemist will ever need. There are the alchemic burner, glass flasks, a glass stirring rod, and a small mortar and pestle. These are just the basics and any alchemist worth their salt would try their best their tools to craft better potions.

Materials

The materials an alchemist can use are too numerous to name. Generally, they use items from the forest to craft their brews, but it's not too out of the ordinary to see an alchemist use metals in their creations. It's encouraged for them to experiment and make unique potions, but do try to remember not everything will work.

Workplace

Where an alchemist decides to brew their potions depends on them. Some do it wherever they want, but it's possible someone can steal from them. Others step up camp in the training room, while some decide to make a guild centered around alchemy.

Dangers & Hazards

There's always the chance experimenting with a new recipe can cause some volatile reactions. Always remember, safety comes first!

CREATION OF THE CLASS

The alchemist class is the first-ever specialist class in concept. In most fantasy media, alchemy is ever-present. So, it was a no-brainer that I wanted to make Alchemist. I first needed to get my mind off of a particular anime, then came crafting the advancements, which wasn't too bad compared to everything else. Next came making the alchemy system. Spoilers, I didn't! I had one of my friends help me create it. After some revisions and edits, the Alchemist class was born.
Alternative Names
Brewer and Potion Crafter. Some names denote alchemists as pseudo-magic users or lazy people who don't learn "real" science.
Demand
The demand for alchemists is high, but everyone ends up learning the skill instead of the class.
Legality
Being an alchemist is a legal professional. However, morality comes into play when the alchemist uses strange materials in their potions. Of course, the average person can't tell the difference, but other alchemists would, and depending on their moral standings, conflict may happen.
