The Harborage

In the far West, the world is quickly changing. A destructive plague ravages the Deadman's Peninsula and has left a dozen towns and villages abandoned even outside of Hadrian's wall. One such place is the Harborage: an important stop on the long journey around the frigid Northern Coast. Now, the priestdom lies in ruins, occasionally used by pirates and brigands seeking an entry point into more civilized lands. Cobwebs, rats, and plantlife have reclaimed this once sacred place. The air heavy with some malicious presence.

Purpose / Function

Originally, a place of refuge for anyone heading around the Northlands by sea, the Harborage has since been exploited as a place to plan raids and a short term camp for Slavers and pirates.

Alterations

the main structure was built in 2850, but was destroyed in a war between North and South Dalimar in 2942 and reconstructed a decade later. The promenade was built in 3010, about 100 years after the construction of the original building. The bell tower was erected soon after, and most recently, the priests' quarters in 3173. The docks were formerly meant for fishermen living nearby, but after they moved south to avoid the growing cold, the docks were donated to the Harborage in 3119.

Architecture

Buttresses rise up around the main structure of the gathering place. Dark stone walls form around a courtyard holding a lone tree. markings cover the walls of the promenade. Stories of gods and demons, angels and Man alike. Two stories are etched into the walls, one beginning from the left the other from the right both ending in the center with a mural of Pelor. A stone belltower sprouts from the corner of the promenade, a simple copper bell about two feet in diameter hangs awkwardly from its hoists. Wooden stairs wind up to the bell and lead to a walkway along the back roof of the promenade. Some of the dull red roof tiles lay broken and scattered around the perimeter in heaps of dust. The priests' quarters cramp together just outside the Harborage walls on the cliff leading to the docks. Three squat buildings could house 8 people each, though rarely more than 3 or 4 priests ever resided in the place. They mimic the Abbey's dark stone walls, but are topped with wood and thatch roofs that have begun to fall apart. The dock house lies in shambles at the foot of the short cliff, having been poorly made and maintained. A ship unlike the usual seen in the docks is moored at the beach, lazily leaning on its side. Being a Northlander ship, its figurehead depicts a large serpent with a small mammal in its teeth. Large, round shields lie half buried in the sand along with rusting axes and spears. Upon closer inspection, a gash can be seen in its hull; three feet of jagged wreckage peaks just above the sand on the ship's underbelly. Going back to the Abbey itself, a pair of heavy wooden cellar doors are positioned behind the main structure leading to a basement meant to hold the dead. A barrow of sorts. Stagnant holy water, occasional squeaking rats, dark stone rubble. A whole in the ceiling leads to a short hallway on the first floor. The catacombs end after a right-hand turn, a mural of two figures long unrecognizable. Pillars line the center of the barrow, the central seems to have been knocked down. On the first floor, the main doors lead to a short entry way with a door on either side of hallway. Both lead to storage rooms where silver candlesticks and worn out books remain. The hallway holds a quartet of reliefs with small shrines on either side, a large hole opens roughly in the middle of the hall floor. The main chamber obviously used to be a gathering place for worship, but has been reconfigured into rough iron jail cells, two on each side.
