The Sword of Gardain

To look at, the sword is not particularly impressive. Made of slightly blue-tinted steel, the blade has a chipped edge and runes etched down the spine. The hilt bears a knight's symbol, a roaring bear, and the grip is wrapped in dark leather. Despite its normal appearance, the sword holds a special place in the museum and in Ibith's history.

History

The Sword of Gardain was the famous weapon used by the knight Gardain in the war for Ibith's independence. Ibith, a small mountainous country, had been in a long and bloody conflict with the colonizing nation of Syth, in an attempt to gain sovereignty. After suffering devastating losses in several battles, Ibith was close to resigning and accepting the conditions of surrender. However, the knights of Ibith decided to take on one last battle, and assembled the remnants of Ibith's forces to attack the main Syth stronghold on Ibith territory. Led by Gardain, the charge was a miraculous success. Though this attack wasn't actually the end of the war, it gave Ibith the foothold it needed to overthrow Syth and procure independence. Gardain went down in history as a great leader and warrior.
After Gardain's death, his sword went missing. Being such an important symbol of Ibith, it was assumed by the public that it had been hidden to protect it. However, some 150 years later, the sword showed up in the neighboring country of Eren in the main exhibit of the Eren Museum. Attempts at diplomacy failed to return the sword to Ibith, so a team of adventurers were secretly sent to recover it. The team was able to bypass museum security and acquire the sword, which was returned to Ibith and set in pride of place in the Greyfeather Museum in Ibith. It is under high security and will hopefully remain there for centuries to come.
