Elaine's Fountain

Elaine was the first elf to die upon the world. She was the most compassionate of the elves, careful in treading in the lands to break not a twig, nor trample the smallest of insects. She wept for all those who suffered, yet her heart was weak. Eventually, she eventually succumbed to this weakness and died. The elves were not strangers to death, yet had thought themselves immortal. Elaine's death deeply grieved them, and so they erected this shrine to memorialize her.

Geography

The Outer Basin

The walls of the basin are natural and rough, about seven feet from floor to rim. Upon a jut of the rim stands a statue to Elaine, under which a section of the basin wall is smooth with a small, thumb-sized cup in it. This cup, when filled with tears, causes the wall to fade away and reveal a path into the fountain shrine below.

The Fountain Shrine

The cavern is not particularly spacious, with the roof no more than nine feet above the floor. The cavern is dense with mourncelium. Small rivulets of water streak down the walls, and run in fingerling streams down into the fountain below, glowing spores swirling within. The fountain pool is little more than ankle deep, and is as a starry sky, jet black with swirling motes of glowing spore within. In this pool stands a second statue to Elaine, which draws up the waters of the pool and cries them back out, some small amount running down her outstretched arms an filling two shallow vessels balanced upon two statues flanking her, one a wolf and one a raven.

Fauna & Flora

Mourncelium

A softly glowing, mushroom-capped fungus whose spore cloud which causes lightheadedness and deep mournful sadness. It comes in many hues of violet, blue, and purple. The fog of spores it puts out typically hangs low to the ground but is easily stirred up, and crushing one will unleash a great burst of glowing spores into the air.

Spiritual Site

The waters of the fountain have some power to them. Standing in the pool project's one's mind into a great sea under a starry night sky, a small island of white sand in the distance. There, Elaine cradles a dead raven, perpetually grieving it's death. She can be conversed with, and may give her blessing to those that beseech her, upon which the vision fades. For those she blesses, drinking of the fountain is empowering, yet leaves some bittersweet sadness in the heart. Those who do partake find themselves unable to stomach doing ill upon others.
