The Agora

Borrowing from the Hellenic roots of Hyperborean culture, the Agora is the central marketplace of Khromarium. All wares from the most exotic to the mundane are brought in every day from the docks, craftsmen, and other tradesmen. As such, it is usually the most crowded place in the city during the day hours, and also boast the best night life to be found anywhere in the civilized world (albeit entertainment of a sexual nature can usually only be found in The Skirts).   The Agora is structured as a series of three squares encircling one another. The permanent shops are in the center, while the more temporary stalls set up every day occupy the two outer squares. The most important permanent enterprise in the Agora are the banks, which store not only the wealth of private citizens and travelers, but also that of the government divided between numerous vaults.   The government of the Agora is the most democratic of any of the boroughs– which is saying very little, of course. A guild exist for every profession in the agora, from the carpenter's guild to the teamster's guild. Membership to the appropriate guild is mandatory in order to do business without "interference" by the local police, as well as the payment of guild dues. The wealthiest member of every guild is typically the representative, and together, the elect the Boroughmaster of the Agora. The current Boroughmaster is Litugenos nepos Cacumatti, a Pict.
