Background and Lore

Ancient History

Ancient Empires. The Deep Ones and their sponsored race, the Lemurians. War with the Star Spawn destroys the Lemurian civilisation. The Lemurians take to their ships, arriving and meeting the Giant kings, a small band of advanced beings. Between them, they fashion bracelets that allow them to communicate. As the Lemurians grow in numbers, the Giant Kings enslave them, using the bracelets to enhance the power of their slaves. Ultimately the slaves discovered the Giant Kings were allied with the God Set, and harboured a small enclave of pre-human serpentmen in the Volcano. Appalled, they rebelled, and there was war between the Lemurians and the Giant Kings.   The Giant Kings sealed the border, altering the bracelets to kill any wearer who left their lands, bounded by the cursewall, trapping their slaves. Ultimately both societies were wiped out, though remnants and ghosts remain. Others moved into the lands, and when the bracelets were rediscovered, it became clear they could be used to exile undesirables to within that ancient border.   Many things have happened since, the Khari empire grew and fell, the Black Hand were washed up on the shore, Nordheimers populated the North, Meruvian expeditions came, Relic Hunters came to raid the old ruins, and the desert people, Darfari and Dogs of the Desert filled the land.   Over time, the exiles grew in number, and the clans formed loose alliances. Magic flourished, human sorcerers dabbled creating a new sorcery from the fertile land, dark and sacrificial (Vanilla), and the magic of the elves from the south spread (AoC). Finally, the magic of the Old Ones, patrons of the Lemurians resurged as their distant descedants redicovered their power (EEWA).

Slavery

All the clans practice slavery, and new Exiles are quickly sorted into free citizens and new slave stock. Fiercely independent, the Free often start new clans, building their own settlements.   When a new shipment of slaves are shipped in the clans compete to capture, train and sell slaves.   Slaves are divided into owned slaves, whether owned by individuals or clans or the community as a whole, or runaway slaves, often hunted, able to be captured at will. New slaves are kenneled for training and auction within the capitals.   Occasionally a free person will be enslaved, whether selling themselves at auction to pay off debts, or submitting to a partner or rival. Less often, slaves are freed by their owners.   Common slaves are available for use by any citizen or clan. The Free may travel to the kennels in order to scout for good slave stock to try out and perhaps bid on at auction. When not in service, slaves are expected to be working for the good of the community they are kenneled with (can PVE), but always return when called (RP callers).

Travel

The first exiles brought magic with them, including portals between places. They also discovered an ancient network of waypoints, which require deep knowledge of magic to use. Since then they have set up their own caravans between the larger clan sites that offer services to travellers.

Hyborian Slavers: Lost Colonies

In the Hyborian Lands, lost sailors discovered a new continent. The first explorers found it was already inhabited, but also found treasure and knowledge. They also found Exiles. Puzzled by this, they eventually found that old magic linked this new continent to certain places within the Cursewall.   When they brought word back, settlers were undeterred and many made the voyage, bringing their slaves and their culture. Clans vie to establish themselves, fugitive slaves try hide and survive, criminals and bandits prey on them (crime system), merchants build markets for rare artefacts and weapons (purchase thespians), mages and witches flourish (Vanilla, AoC, EEWA and TW magic), warriors and mercenaries ply their bloody trades (much PVE content), and bounty hunter chase down thieves and unowned slaves (bounty hunting).   Hyborian Slavers: Lost Colonies is a new extension of the Hyborian Slavers world, based on the Savage Wilds map. It is linked to the Exiled Lands through server transfer stones (AST), so Exiles and Colonists can move between the two maps (and share global chat). Players start in the Lost Colonies as newly arrived colonists or slaves. Lost Colonies is a simpler land than the Exiled Lands, with unlocked fast travel (as yet) and a large amount of admin-placed content including EEWA and AoC.
