Lycans

Lycans

Appearance

Lycans have a fairly similar appearance and build to humans, differing in having slightly pointed and furred ears, a tail, if their animal form has one, and sometimes light fur, or even fur markings, across their back, upper arms, and thighs. Their eyes will also be that of their animal form.   Mature Lycans can also shift into their animal form, and various stages in between their "human" and animal forms. This sort of control and precision comes with time and practice.   Immature Lycans, or those who have not yet gained their animal form, will be lacking in almost all of these traits. They will still have the slightly pointed ears, but they will be less distinct than their mature counterparts.

Lifespan

Lycans live for about 90-110 years.

Government

Lycans have no race-wide government. Instead, individual settlements, or "packs," have their own Elders. A visiting Lycan answers to the hosting Elders, and not their home ones.

Territories

Lycans are found in remote areas of Allynir, Thurank, and Irium, primarily within the mountains and forests.

Culture

Lycans live a hunter/gatherer life with barter being how they trade with those outside of their pack. Within the pack settlement, resources are shared freely based on need. Younger individuals try their hand at various jobs to see where they best fit in, settling in generally upon reaching maturity or soon after. In rare occasions, a matured Lycan can continue to struggle to find where they might fit in with the rest of the pack. This often leads to the individual leaving to either become a loner or join another pack, though not due to any pressure from their home pack.   Pack Elders are selected carefully, potential candidates evaluated on various traits considered vital to leadership. These traits can change based on the other Elders already present and the traits of the Elder who is stepping down, has been removed (a rarity), or has died. Sometimes, in the event of an Elder stepping down, their replacement is selected ahead of time, allowing for them to become familiar with their duties and responsibilities before fully stepping into the role. All important events, such as coming-of-age rituals, Elder selections, and bond commitments, are held on the next full moon from their announcement. The full moon holds significance to the Lycans as a race due to the legends of the full moon once being responsible for their shifting abilities.
